Build One Program – Run It Everywhere

Compile your programs to run on any platform supporting The Internet Virtual Machine.

  •

Write In Standard Languages

You can have the real thing. Why program in proprietary languages, such as Java and C-Sharp that are incompatible derivatives of C++Tried and tested standards, C and C++ are the most widely used programming languages worldwide. With the Internet Virtual Machine, they come with runtime portability.

Working Java and ObjectiveC cross-compilers (short of libraries) are available.

Other languages may become available also, depending on public support and enthusiasm.

Speed and Performance – OpenGL 1.2

The Internet Virtual Machine brings speed, performance and portability, all in one package.  The Internet Virtual Machine will bring Video Games, Interactive Entertainment, and General Applications online, to form the Future Application Base of The New Internet.

To accommodate this, OpenGL 1.2 support has been added. High-speed portable 3D graphics are the strength of the Internet Virtual Machine.

Empowering The New Internet

Our vision is to bring the Internet Virtual Machine to the Internet completely, enabling video games, interactive entertainment, and applications to be operated from the Internet on your browser or television - to bring the ability to completely virtualize the home computer.

New audiences, new opportunities, new room for fresh ideas and innovation. A chance for even the smallest developers to attract global audiences.  A chance for even the smallest developers to inspire new technology and define tomorrow’s standards.

General Public License (GPL)

We believe it will take more than the scope of a few large corporations to define the needs of The New Internet. It will take many innovative individuals and organizations. The Internet Virtual Machine is licensed under the General Public License (GPL). It is our hopes that public ownership of licensing will inspire many new directions, standards, and innovation in tomorrow’s interactive world.

The Internet Virtual Machine is hosted at SourceForge. Our project page can be found at:

Join the Internet Virtual Machine Team

Internet Virtual Machine will become whatever you make it become. There is need for volunteers on all levels.

Internet Virtual Machine - OpenGL Demos

You may download command mode demos for Linux and Windows.

The Linux Demo require RedHat 6.0 or above, and OpenGL 1.2 or Mesa 3.41 or above to be installed. Download the tar file:

              ivmdemo.tar.gz

Then: tar –xzvf ivmdemo.tar.gz – 1.5 Meg

Then enter the directory ivmdemo  and type: .

     /icvm file

where file is the name of the demo you wish to run.

For instance, to run the rollercoaster program type:

./icvm rollercoaster

To run the Windows demos, download the zip file:

             ivmdemo.zip – 1.5 Meg

You will also need the glut32.dll which should be downloaded  and put in your windows/system32 direcory, if you do not already have it.

You may obtain it from this site:

      http://www.xmission.com/~nate/glut.html

unzip the ivmdemo.zip  file. Open the command prompt or dos prompt window. Go to the directory where you unzipped the files and type:

       .\icvm file

where file is the name of the demo you wish to run.

For instance, to run the gears program type:

.\icvm gears

Internet Virtual Machine Downloads

Releases of The Internet Virtual Machine and its components can be found at:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=33204

This page will contain the latest source and binary releases as they become available.

To obtain a copy of the latest CVS tree, download:

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cvstarballs/ivm-cvsroot.tar.gz

NOTE: The CVS tree download is huge - >23.5 Meg

Virtual Machine Documentation

A rough HTML specification of the virtual machine is available. Download vm.html .

A detailed list of the opcodes can also be downloaded. You will need to download the rough HTML spec above for reference to addressing modes, etc.
