- All the search engines listed on the right are equally good, although
some do return some non-MP3 results. I strongly recommend the HENRIK.ORG and
Mircx engines. I normally turn up more hits when I use
them.
- The obvious choice for a player is Winamp. It has features
such as continuous playback, a playlist editor, a 10 band
graphic equalizer and much more, too much to list here. WinPlay has a rather boring interface. It doesnt
support playlists nor does it have an equalizer. I DON'T recommend it. I now hate NAD, the interface frustrated me, it got boring.
The unreal player, however, is pretty sweet. It has a rather interesting interface and very clean sound. Sonique is supposedly supposed to rock, but
it's not due for release for a while.
I honestly haven't had time to try the rest of the players. I'm sure they all have both their good and
bad qualities, but still Winamp is THE premiere choice of MP3 players.
- My personal choice for a ripper is WinDAC. It's simple to use, very
straight-forward and has a great interface. CD Copy is a fairly good program
with a nice, easy to use interface. The only other ripper I've tested
personally is CDDA32. It's a nice program, but definitely does not meet
the standards set by WinDAC.
- I haven't personally tried any of the encoders listed here, simply because
I have no need to. I use MPlifier. It's lightning fast but has a frequency cut off of 16 Mhz,
as opposed to most other encoders 20Mhz. Unfortunately the author of MPlifier
was forced to take down his site. He did, after all, use Xing's engine without they're
permission. If you can still find MPlifier somewhere, get it, it'll be well worth it.
- I'll try to provide you with only the best and most permanent links out
there. I strongly recommend visiting Dimension Music (I'm sure you have
already) and MP3.com. The Outer Limits is gone.
I just tried the link...and I got a 404 not found. Don't know much about the future of this site.
www.mp3.co.uk is gone as well. According to the page, It'll be up
later this year.
