RMC '96 CMR -- UPDATE
|
||||||||
Reunion weekend is coming up and I hope that many of you have been able to get to Kingston for the weekend. If you can't be there, we will definitely be thinking about you and I hope that you will be able to make in five years to our ten year reunion.
Before I give you the details about what will be going on in Kingston at the end of September I wanted to ask for some help with Class Secretary stuff. I need help keeping the web site up to date, keeping in touch with everyone, organizing the next reunion and getting the Class Gift on the go.
Speaking of the Class Gift ...
As you all know, our class never did give a gift to the college. You also may have heard about the idea of having a stained glass window made to recognize that we were the first class to have started at all three colleges and graduate together at RMC. The perfect spot for this gift is in the six-piece window in the Old Gym. Not only would our class gift be seen by anyone using the Old Gym for presentations etc., but the main entrance to the new Cadet Mess is directly under the window. This means that every cadet for years to come will see our gift - the crests from our three colleges RRMC, RMC, and CMR.
It is time to ensure that the legacy of the Class of 96 lives on. The years we spent together at military college should be remembered for more than some stories about Christmas Dinners and Grad Parades gone wrong. Our stained glass window will be a physical reminder of the colleges where we met some of our best friends. It will remind the cadets of the history of the three military colleges before RMC-CMR and it will be something that we can admire every five years at reunions, even after we become members of the Old Brigade.
Here is a picture of the window and of a sketch one of the artists I got a price estimate from:
|
||||||||
The price range of the estimates I collected is from $9000 to $25000 depending on how many windows we use and how detailed the crests are. We have $450 in our class fund. The RMC Club issues tax receipts for donations made to the Class Fund. Making a donation is as easy as writing a cheque and sending it to the RMC Club. I will also make arrangements to be able to collect cheques during reunion weekend.
At the end of our fourth year we received a cheque for $85. This was to reimburse us for the Class Gift contributions taken from our pay throughout that year since there was a scandal going on (landscaping plan). So now it has been five years since we graduated and pretty much every one of us is making a whole lot more money than we did in 1996.
Of course, all contributions to the Class of 96 Fund for our Stained Glass Window will help. However, considering we were ready to give up $85 when we were officer cadets, most of us should be able to re-contribute that $85. It is a small price to pay for something that will last a lifetime.
I am hoping that we can collect at least the $9000 we need to get the cheapest stained glass window before September 2002. The more money we make over $9000, the better a window we will get.
Think about all of the good times you had at mil col and of all of the close friends that you made there. Think about going back to the college to meet up with those friends in five, ten, twenty, and fifty years from now and seeing our stained glass window with the college crests that brought us together to make so many good memories.
Send your cheque for your contribution made out to 'RMC Club - Class of 96 Fund' to the address below - and don't forget to make sure that your college buds are pitching in too.
