PwC POWER RANGERS
A New Hope
In the calm and stillness of an indoor basketball court lacking windows, natural lighting and sensible ventilation, dawns a new hope for the forsaken, a new beginning for a lost cause, a new pride for the down trodden...
They are the PwC Power Rangers, a motley crew of unknown soldiers and battling diggers, caught up in the Great War of Tax Reform. Led by its indomitable chieftain, Chris "the Rock" Rogaris, the Power Rangers fight an endless battle against long hours, bad posture, unhealthy diets, flabbiness and poor dental hygiene.
These are their stories....
In the beginning - Game 1
Picture it - last Thursday night, 5.30pm. Not a soul in sight and suddenly 13 overly keen, eager beaver, NBA wannabe's rock up to St Andrew's Boys Cathedral School looking to prove that Tax Men (and Women) Can Jump.
Getting down to business, the Rangers took the early lead thanks to 3 point long range bomber Pete 'B52' Rodrigues and defensive expertise of John "Not in MY house" McIntosh and Deana "That is MY Ball!" Trimboli.
Through the game however, their opponents and last season champions "The Professionals" got into their rhythm to take advantage of the newly formed and somewhat less disciplined Rookie Rangers. Player Manager Wai Choong 'Steamin' Chan was soon tearing his hair out in a desperate attempt to stem the bleeding. And a final closing rally by the Heroes drew a respectable scoreline and an end to proceedings. Alas, while enthusiasm and unsurpassed team spirit undoubtedly won the day, the Power Rangers had to settle for second best 29 - 20.
