The main thing I lookfor when buying a bike is:1.) Weight, The main thing I look forWhen buying a bike is the weight, ifa bike is to heavy its much harder to climb steep hills, and it also wears you out much faster and decreasesyour efficency.2.)Cost, Am I getting the most from mymoney.3.)What kind of extras are there, A few extras to look for are:a.)Bar endsb.)Shocks (Try to get ones that havemore travel, but dont spend more thanyour bike cost,and if you dont plan on using your bike, alot you can live with a rigid fork.)c.)Threadless head setd.)Cromoly or aluminum frame(Aluminum is lighter and just as strong as cromolyas cromoly, both are light, but aluminum is better if you plan on spendinga fair amount of money.e.)v brakes(A newer style of brakes that havebetter stoping power, because they have more leverage.)f.)Computerized speedometer(Not a must, but a good luxury.)g.)a light for riding at night(Not a must unless you ride at night alot.)h.)Quick relese rimsthese are some main extras to lookfor on a mountain bike.ps. The main thing that you need when your riding the trail is common sense.Some things to take into effect when preparing to go rideing a trail is1.) Is your helmet up to safty standards, and are you wearing itproperly, (A helmet is a must when riding a trail)2.) Do you have enough water?water is very important when ridingriding a long trail, and even a short trail if you dont have enough water you could become completlydehydrated or your body temperature could rise above the normal level,and could cause you to faint or cause brain damage, and make it very hardto get you to the hospital.3.) Are you wearing clothes that keep you coool?Again if your not wearing clothes thatkeep you cool you could cause your body temperature to rise and cause fatigue,and some serious problems.4.) Is the trail or mountain yourabout to ride to hard for you? Dont overestimate your abilities,start with something simple and easy,and work your self up from there.5.) Do you have enough food or snacksfor your trip?without food your efficincy drops and you lose alot of energy.High carb food is usaly a good idea.Try to get food without alot ofsugar, because your body secretes a natural substance that stops sugar frommaking you hyper , and it also makesyou loose alot of stored energy.Bread, nodles, potatos are all goodsources of carbs. your body gets over half of its energyfrom carbohydrates.6.) Make sure your bike is in top condition before each ride, when your on the trail its much harder to fix your bike.7.) Bring a bike tire pump and patch kit. 8.)Bring proper tools for removing tiresand fixing any other posible problems9.) Plan ahead of time for your trip, Make a check list of things youneed to do, and a checklist for your bike to get it into top condition.10.)
