Rebels Add Assistant Coach

Brent Sutter, General Manager and Coach of the Red Deer Rebels Hockey Club, announced today that Dan MacDonald has been added as an assistant coach with the Rebels. MacDonald will work with the team on a part-time basis.

Dan MacDonald has an extensive coaching background, having coached the Red Deer College Kings the last three seasons. Before that, Dan coached the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs (Midget AAA) four seasons. Three of those years, the Chiefs went to the Air Canada Cup National Midget Championships. The Chiefs won silver in 1994 and 1995. Dan has also coached in the Western Hockey League with the Seattle Thunderbirds in 1986-87.

?I?m really excited to be involved with the Red Deer Rebels organization. This is a different age group than the last three years with the college Kings, and this brings different needs. I?m looking forward to working with the rest of the coaching staff,? says MacDonald.

Dan will also continue to be a full-time teacher in Red Deer.

?We are fortunate to be able to add a person like Dan to our staff. Dan brings a great knowledge of the game to our dressing room and he communicates well with the players,? says Brent Sutter.

Along with Head Coach Brent Sutter, and Assistant Coach Dallas Gaume, this will round out the Rebels coaching staff for the 2000/2001 Western Hockey League season.
