Chia-Hsing (Justin) Chien
Thank you for visiting my home page!
I am originally from Taipei, Taiwan. After I finished my Bachelor's
degree in Electronic Engineering at the National Taipei Institute of
Technology, and served in the Taiwanese Army, I decided to go for
a higher degree. So here I am in the United States!
I graduated from
Washington University
in
St. Louis in 1996. After
I received my Master's degreee in Electrical Engineering, I moved
to
Clinton /
Lancaster,
Massachusetts,
to work in
Digital Equipment Corporation's
MTV group (Modeling, Tools, and Verification - a cool place!) as a
verification engineer. (DEC was bought by Compaq in June, 1998). Currently I am working on the verification
of the corelogic chipsets for the Alpha microprocessors.

My Life, My Thoughts
If you would like to know what is happening about me, please check out this link:
What I am doing?.
I am a movie goer. When I need to check the information about a movie, I like to use
The Internet Movie Database.
If I plan to go to a movie, I use the
Worcester Phoenix
or the
Boston Phoenix
to find a movie I like and a theater near me. The
Movie Link
is useful, too. Talking about my favorite movies, here is a list of the best
movie of the year (my pick) from 1993 to 1997:
The Piano
(1993),
Hoop Dreams
(1994),
Babe
(1995),
Fargo
(1996),
Ice Storm
(1997), and
Beloved
(1998).
Living in New England, I have the opportunity to visit beautiful mountains and forests.
I use the
Massachusetts Department of Environmental Management Forest and Parks
to find more information. One of my favorite nearby places is
Wachusett Mountain
, where I can ski in the winter and hike in the summer.
I work out regularly because I enjoy the energy that I get back from physical exercise.
Although I joined the Bally Total Fitness recently, I have never liked it. The main
reason I joined: their whirlpool. I won't recommand that any of my friends join it. (Why? See
Bally Total Fitness Complaints.)
I do enjoy working out!
How about football? I watch football sometimes and also play "Fantasy Football" at work. I use
ESPN's NFL
to check player status and the game results. I was in the 1996 playoff when I started my
Fantasy Football career. Thanks to my friends Mike Travers and Russ Singery's help - I was not
even close to the playoff last year! :) Hopefully we can do better this year. Go Twister!
Recently, I begin to learn ice skating at the New Englad Sport Center, where several Olympic champions
are trained. Although I am not as good as they are, I still enjoy ice skating a lot. I use the
Ice Skating Institute
to check any information about ice skating.
I am also a person who is not relaxed easily - work too much! So I take Yoga lessons occasionally at the
Earthsong Yoga Center
to help me relax. It really helps!
Fine Art is one of my hobbies. I have taken a photography class at the
DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park.
There are several interesting outdoor sculptures as well as indoor exhibits.
A wonderful place to visit in the summer. Here are some nice pictures I took around the area I live:
Pic1, Pic2, Pic3,
Pic4, Pic5, Pic6.
I also go to the concerts by
Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO)
sometime, and went to
TangleWood
once for their performance. I enjoyed the concerts very much!
I also published a paper with my coworkers in 1998. The paper was presented in HLDVT98 titled
" A Pseudo-Random Approach to Verify Error Handling Features in a Core-logic Chip Set".
If you are interested, you may down load, gunzip, and take a look of it.
That's right! I bought a house in Lancaster with Dennis Arbo this year (1998)! Lancaster is a town just
next to Clinton. Here are some pictures to share with you:
