Fireball XL5 landing at Space City

Here is a preview of the Fireball XL5 section of Space City. Here you'll find lots of original images featuring Fireball XL5 and other craft - and of course, Space City itself.
Fireball XL5 was a Gerry Anderson television show produced in 1963. It featured the sleek silver spaceship of the World Space Patrol. Fireball XL5 is piloted by Colonel Steve Zodiac. Other crewmembers are: Venus - Doctor of space medicine, Professor Matthew Matic - Navigator and Scientist, and Robert the robot co-pilot.

Although puppets were used to depict the characters this show was extraordinary in quality. The scene at the start of the program is superb - a take-off along a mile long launch rail at Space City.

Bear in mind this series was launched around 1962, long before Star Trek and Star Wars - it's special effects were truly ground breaking - and paved the way for a succession of further sci-fi shows by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson.

In our XL5 Gallery you'll find lots images that we've created using computer graphics. The original show was in black and white so it's been very rewarding depicting our Fireball XL5 scenes in full colour.

Being great fans of Fireball Xl5, Pauline and I decided to construct XL5's base, the ship itself, and anything else from the series that we could create using 3d graphics.
We have now recreated the Space City studio set in Bryce. We built our own Fireball Xl5 and Space City - plus numerous other XL5 related models and images.

Here are our 3d model Jetmobiles
These classy flying motorbikes are used by the Fireball crew to cruise around alien planets.
We created our models using Cinema 4D. The best reference source we could find was a set of images in the old 90's Century 21 magazine.
Steve's jetmobile is blue, Venus's is red and Matt's is green.

Steve Zodiac's Jetcar

Steve Zodiac's Flying Car

Here's our model of the car that Steve often uses in the series. This two seater car doesn't need roads. It's ideal for getting around the Space City island.

We made this model in Truespace and rendered it in Bryce 5. Some of the Fireball XL5 annuals had excellent artwork in the front pages depicting this type of car.

Go to SPACE CITY to see more images we've created based on the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson shows.
You can also see our collection of Anderson related toys and models.
