CIPHER1 - A program to do simple ROT13 encoding/decoding and to encipher/decipher based on a five or six letter keyword. Now also does RC4 with a 40-bit key. (Note: These ciphers are trivial to break by hand, or in the case of RC4 with a 40-bit key, trivial for those with the right resources. Do NOT use for anything you wouldn't want to see as a full-page ad in the New York Times.) (Requires Win 95/98/NT; Updated 11/09/99)

See screenshot of Cipher1

Instructions: Download each of the three files below (just click on the filename). UnZip* all three into a temporary directory such as c:\temp. Run setup.exe. Setup will do the rest, copying the files into the appropriate directory and creating a shortcut in your Start/Programs menu.

cipher1a.zip 632KB
cipher1b.zip 706KB
cipher1c.zip 592KB

Cipher1 Readme

Bugfix: If you downloaded Cipher1 between 6pm EST Wednesday, 11/03/99 and 4:00pm EST Tuesday, 11/09/99, please download bugfix.zip 21KB.

UnZip* into the same directory as Cipher1. (By default, the install program places Cipher1 in C:\Program Files\ROT13\ )
