WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF HALF HORSE

"This is ridiculous! Here we have the most important event to happen to Mankind this decade- a link between worlds, and what happens? Earth's Ambasador winds up as a racehorse!" from Ch 15 Half Horse Book 1.

If you love horses, are young at heart and like to exercise your imagination, then Half Horse was written for you.

Imagine a world where half the population is made up of intelligent half-horse beings. Imagine finding yourself stranded there and learning that you must have an owner if you want to stay. Imagine the new sights you will see, the world of new things you will experience, the interesting people - and horses- you will meet.

Better still ... don't try to imagine it ... jump into the world of Half Horse and experience it with Sierra as his adventures unfold.

Although this site is no longer the main one for Half Horse on the web, you can still find the whole of Book 1 at the author's home page Black Dragon's Den.

And some samples of the story chosen at random:

(From Chapter 10):
"Dumbray. Come here!" she snapped. Heart pounding, the gentle, brown racer rose to his hoofs, flicking a glance at Nicoy as he did so. The trainer’s glance swung to the end of the table as well. "You keep out of this Nicoy! I’ll have my say to you later." Grabbing Dumbray by the mane the moment he approached close enough, she hauled him out into the corridor. Instantly there was a clatter of hoofs and a screech of wood on stone as every horse made to rise and follow.

"Sit down!" Nicoy ordered. "The first horse to leave this room will lose all free days for a season."

No-one was at all sure she would be able to enforce such a ruling, but no-one was willing to take the chance so they all stayed glued to their seats listening to the voices from outside. It was mostly Zaras they heard; Dumbray’s soft spoken replies were swallowed by the thick stone wall.

(From Chapter 27):
Ric, a magnificent yellow horse, had six mares and something like fifteen offspring in various stages of growth and was related by blood or marriage to almost every horse in the camp. Morday hoped he would take a liking to Ta Ashi the same as he had with Chadu because if he did there would be no trouble. Ta Ashi would be accepted immediately by all the horses, none of whom would dare to oppose the strong willed and well-muscled Ric. But if Ric took a dislike to him there would be trouble. It could easily happen. Ric was not used to being confronted with horses as handsome as himself; he might see him as a threat. If it came to a fight the big, powerful yellow horse would without doubt defeat, perhaps even kill the younger, lighter Ta Ashi. (From Chapter 27)

(From Chapter 35):
"Is that what you want?" she asked.

"To train Sierra for the Big Race? Yes, why not? Mostly I want to get him away from here, but if it will give you something to do while you're in hiding, then why not prepare for the race? I'm sure you'd enjoy it, and he will need to get back into racing one day. He made his initial appearance in the Big Race, why not his return?" He grinned at the growing look of excitement on Nicoy's face. "You and he once took Rynn up by the heels and shook it; you can do it again. It would be a marvellous way to have him re-enter racing, and think of the money you could put on him."

Nicoy turned suddenly and punched Jon’s  arm. "All right, enough! You remind me of a sly old rug seller at times, you do- wheedling with your words. All right, I'll do it. I'll take Sierra to the farm and train him. Thoje and Ki can cope with the rest of the training schedules here. But there's one condition ... you have to come with us, for protection."
