Notes:
IMK-16M Marine Stalker: The only major variant of the IMK-15 War Stalker, the
IMK-16M was designed to launch surprise raids on Elaran installations. Launched from
specially converted Fan Carriers, or even heavilly modified submarines, IMK-16Ms were
initially very successful, until the Elarans began deploying their own marine converted
Mektons to counter this new threat.
Although the basic frame was that of an IMK-15,
the type required a number of major changes to its propulsion and sensor sysyems, as well
as waterproofing, to make it viable. The weapons payload was completely changed;
consisting of a carbine firing rocket boosted shells, loaded from a revolver type
cylinder; two heavy torpedos; two close range rocket packs, a cutting laser, and a spear
to provide marginal close combat capability. Finally, a large mine enabled the the IMK-16M
to demolish underwater obstacles.
The main puzzle of the Marine Stalker is why it
was based on the IMK-15, and not the much more popular and versatile IMK-08 Death Stalker.
The main theory is that the heavier armour of the IMK-15 was more suited to the harsher
sea
environment. About a hundred of this type were manufactured; only a handful remain in
service, mainly for utility work on the Kargan sea farms, the type having been replaced by
much more modern units. |
