Doctor Who - The Ultimate Guide

The BBC has approved plans by Big Finish Productions, the company that produce the popular New Adventures audio plays, to produce brand new Doctor Who audio drama, officially approved by the BBC as part of the Doctor Who canon.

The plays will consist of the traditional 4 x 25 minute episode format, as per the original TV series, and recording is due to begin in the spring. The tapes will be available in the summer, with a new story every two months. The first story, The Sirens of Time, will feature Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy in a special multi-Doctor story. Future plans involve using Paul McGann in a series of new adventures tying in with the Eighth Doctor's stories currently being presented in the BBC novels, thus officially bringing them into the Doctor Who canon.

To this end, The Ultimate Guide is being revamped, renewed and refreshed, using this new start for the series as an excuse for a good old-fashioned re-launch. In future the site hopes to deliver:

Brand new up-to-date guides and reviews to the new audio adventures as and when they are released,

A similar guide for all new Doctor Who novels - both those featuring the current Doctor and those featuring Doctors from the series' past,

"The Continuity List" - A guide to exactly where all the novels and audios fit into the continuity of the TV series.

BRAND NEW: Doctor Who News Page - the opening page will feature all the latest news in the world of Doctor Who,

BRAND NEW: Convention / Event Pages featuring photographs from some of the conventions of recent years,

BRAND NEW: Links page, featuring the very best, most relevant Doctor Who pages on the web,

Doctors return for Comic Relief!

12^th March is a date not to be missed. Two skit episodes of Doctor Who will be aired on Comic Relief, reportedly featuring Rowan Atkinson as the Doctor and Alan Rickman as the Master. Rumours abound that various previous Doctors may return for the skit.

May or June Release for Returned Episode

Plans are afoot at BBC Worldwide for a May or June video release of the recently rediscovered first episode of The Crusades, The Lion. The episode will be featured along side the third episode and linking narration by William Russell will fill the gaps left by the missing 2^nd and 4^th episodes. The complete four episodes of the following story, The Space Museum, will also be included on the tape.
