Slam City Jam 2000!
|
|
Slam has now come and gone from Vancouver, and for those who were there know the show they went to see and loved it once again! Skateboarding is taken to a better higher level every year it seems and things keep getting better and better. This year there was a terrific competition in the qualifications but the real combat of tricks came in the finals of course with Ryan Johnson (Sponsored by New Deal,Emerica, Thunder, Spitfire and Ambiguous )coming in first with a best run of 88.67 pts. He won a purse of $7000 american. Alex Gavin Came in second in the street (skating for Premium Wood)with a best run of 82.33 pts and a purse collected for $3500. Again as no surprise Muska once again did not compete at all in this comp and I accually didn't even see him until Sunday. Shorty's DID NOT open a shop like they were supposed to and made no real corperate setup at all. I thought it was wierd what with the hype and all. In the Vert comp Bob Burnquist (Skating for The Firm, Hurley, Es and Oakley) came first with a purse of $7000. Andy McDonald came in second for $3500, Sandro Dias of Brasil (riding for Reef) came third for $2000 and my fave Colin McKay of NVBC (skating for Girl, RDS, DCSHOECO, Nixon and FourStar)came fourth for $1500, Good Job man!! Slam was more booming than I ever remember, but I think thats the industry and the music being involved. The Razcalz showed for 30 minutes exactly and inturn there were many FuBuers around making for the riff-raff, next year don't come if you read this FUBU. If you like to meet hot guys and girls, love skating and like to lisen to good bands then I recomend Slam City Jam to all that can make it to Vancouver next year May 5-7, 2001. I'll have my foto album of Slam up soom to be sure!
