"Ops Center"
Style: Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 07 Dec 00 |
Well, I'm at it again, aren't I? Yet
another "Aliens"-inspired tune!
You can't blame me, can you? it was such
an awesome movie that it deserves a DOZEN
songs or more.
This mod is about the fight to the death that occurred in the Ops Center of LV-426. The aliens had the Marines cornered, their backs against the wall, yet the "tough hombres" never gave in, fighting the creatures with every last ounce of strength left in their bodies. They followed the way of the Corps to the max: "Ours is not to wonder why, ours is just to do or die." |
"Max-Q"
Style: Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 27 Jul 00 |
"Max-Q" is an engineering term which signifies the point in a rocket's launch trajectory where the dynamic resistance (i.e., aerodynamic forces acting on the rocket) is the greatest. Like my earlier mod, "Hypergolic", I use the title to remind me f my love of space flight and my desires from my childhood to be an astronaut. Unfortunately for me, my extreme height (6'8") prevented me from attaining my hifalutin' career goals. But I still hold a special place in my heart for all things dealing with spaceflight. Greets fly to:

"The Beast Cometh"
Style: Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 30 Aug 99 |
If you've listened to any of my other tunes, you probably already know by now that I'm a firm believer in Armageddon. One of the key players in this future battle will be the Antichrist, one bad mutha, if ya know what I mean. This "beast" will bring about the "Abomination of Desolation"-- while I'm not too sure exactly what this refers to, I know it's something horrifying, something so offensive to God that when His Son returns to vanquish His enemies, the Beast and all who serve him will be cast into the lake of eternal torment. Think I'm joking? Check out the Book of Revelation. This piece is pretty tame compared to the *real* Beast, who will bring about persecutions of the faithful the likes of which have never been seen on this planet. Yet, if you are Christian, under *NO CIRCUMSTANCES* are you to accept the mark of the Beast on your hands or forehead. On pain of death, you must refuse this mark, for if you do accept it, prepare to spend an extremely long eternity suffering in the Pit with the Beast and his minions. Jesus Christ, my Lord and Master, grant me a holy death that I may further glorify your name--Amen! |
"Bullet Time (8-bit)"
Style: Goa/Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 25 Aug 99 |
Ok, you've probably already
guessed what this song is
about--the movie "The Matrix",
which, to my thinking, is
undoubtedly the finest science
fiction movie I've seen in over
20 years...perhaps even *the
best*. It surpasses "Blade
Runner", "Star Trek", "Star Wars",
even (*gasp*, dare I say it?)
"Aliens".
"The Matrix" is without a doubt the *coolest* movie I've ever seen. Even though the *science* behind the film is questionable at best--the movie is about a future in which mankind builds machines which eventually become self-aware, capable of creating more machines. Eventually, these machines create a computer simulation of all life on the planet Earth and use this to enslave humans. But such an interactive simulation, into which every human being is plugged in and sees as his or her own "reality", would take an entire Universe full of memory chips to store the necessary data and programs--even with this "minor" flaw, the movie still outperforms every major science fiction adventure I've ever seen or read. This song is my feeble attempt at a homage to the movie. Now, granted, there were some questionable ethics involved--e.g., the need to kill other humans who were still enslaved by the machines--and the violence and non-stop killing could have detrimental effects on developing young minds (I've been wondering if the Littleton, Colorado teens weren't influenced by this movie), I am still fascinated by this movie. I've seen it 6 times thus far, and plan to see it even more! |
"Titanic"
Style: Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 22 Apr 99 |
This is a Knights and Pirates production, our 11th since the group was formed a year and a half ago. After viewing the movie "Titanic", we put our heads together and came up with this piece, dedicated to all 1500 souls which were lost in the disaster. |
"Hypergolic"
Style: Techno Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 25 Mar 99 |
The title refers to a class of rocket fuels that ignite on contact with the oxidizer. Although hypergolic fuels provide less specific impulse than other fuels, they are easier to store and have the further advantage of providing the engine with a restart capability These fuel are less dangerous to handle than non-hypergolic fuels, and in the long run, they're safer for the astronauts. I thought of the title right after I added the Apollo 11 landing sample (where Neil Armstrong says "Houston...Tranquility Base here...the Eagle has landed"). I hereby dedicate this song to the 10 American Astronauts who gave their lives for the advancement of space travel: (Apollo I crew)
(STS-51-L "Challenger" crew)

"TEOTWAWKI (metal version)"
Style: Metal Rock Tracker: Impulse Tracker v2.14 Released: 25 Oct 98 |
Don't freak out at the title--it's an acronym for "the end of the world as we know
it." It refers to Y2K (you know, that computer date problem thingy set to
bite us in the nether regions come December 31, 1999).
There are those who believe (okay, I know, Battlestar Galactica did it better) that the Y2K crisis will set off a chain of events that will lead to TEOTWAWKI (pronounced "tay-oh-tuh-WAH-kee"), and there's nothing we can do to stop it. Still others believe Y2K will be the equivalent of a mosquito bite--a mere nuisance. I'm somewhere in the middle (a place I do not often frequent--I'm usually at the extremes. In fact, my friends call me "Mr. Binary" due to my "on/off", "black/white" way of looking at things.) You decide for yourself. Research the data and come up with your own conclusions. To get you started, why not check out my "Y2K links" page at |
"TEOTWAWKI" (non-metal version)" | Here is the original version of "TEOTWAWKI", before the revisions I made per the suggestions of Chris and Steve--which version do you like best? |
"Ocean Club (remix)"
Style: Techno Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 04 Sep 1997 |
I was love at first listen with this track by Soul. I just couldn't leave it alone; I loved it so much I had to expand it and add a few of my own goodies (like the bongo track & voice samples, plus a completely new section).) |
"Armageddon Complex"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 12 May 1997 |
I was going for something dark and mysterious here. I'm a firm believer in apocalyptic literature as 'literal truth mixed with metaphor.' I believe we are in the 'end times' as predicted by John in the Book of Revelation. This mod outlines the way I see the end coming about--through nuclear war. Sure, we've made friends with the Russians, but there is still a great possibility that our massive arsenal of nuclear weapons will be put to use--no one knows when or how, but one thing is for sure--The End is coming. When it gets here, I just hope I'm right with the Lord. |
"Ringo Rides Again"
Style: Country Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 09 May 1997 |
I wrote this song for my Mom on Mother's Day, 1997. She said she wanted something 'country'--this is all I could think of. What the hey, it didn't turn out too bad, eh? |
"Celestial Warfare"
Style: Inspirational/Spiritual Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 02 May 1997 |
There's a war going on, a celestial war, taking place unseen all around us. This song is dedicated to those celestial warriors who have been assigned by God to protect us from the unseen forces of darkness. |
"Flute Loops"
Style: Trance Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 17 Apr 1997 |
My wife and son went on a wild song-naming spree with this one. I asked my wife, 'Didn't you enjoy the flute loop?' Guess what?--the name stuck. Oh well... |
"Slam Rock Jamz"
Style: Rave Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 17 Apr 1997 |
Tracked in a flash of inspiration on 17 Apr 97. I asked my son, 'What do you think I should call this song?' He replied, 'Slam Rock Jamz'--and the name stuck. This is my first real rave mod--everything else has been a mishmash of techno, house, and light rock. |
"Bond Still Rules"
Style: TV/Movie Themes Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 11 Apr 1997 |
'Bond, James Bond'...we've heard it dozens of times, with
no less than 5 different actors vying for the part of the
suave English spy come to know and love as James Bond, 007.
The actors were (in order of screen appearance):
Who was the best Bond? For my money, it was Sean Connery, although Pierce Brosnan would have to run a close second. |
"Long Beach Harbor"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 07 Apr 1997 |
When I was a boy, I used to spend the entire day swimming in Long Beach Harbor (in Long Beach, CA). It brings back a flood of memories, some good, some not so good. But I'll always remember the good times I had swimming at this beach. God, how I miss my adopted city |
"Swamp Jamz"
Style: Rave Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 03 Apr 1997 |
Imagine a night in the swamp--the frogs are whooping it up, and they've invited you to join 'em! |
"Empire Jamz"
Style: TV/Movie Themes Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 16 Mar 1997 |
This module was inspired by the recent re-release of 3 of the most popular movies of all time--the 'Star Wars' trilogy. Of the 3, my favorite has always been 'The Empire Strikes Back.' I'm not exactly sure why. Maybe it was the 'most impressive' scoring by John Williams. In any case, I loved the movie and was only too happy to shell out another couple of bucks for a chance to relive a part of my history. |
"Viva Vasquez!"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 08 Mar 1997 |
Remember the saucy Chicana from the movie? Her name was Pvt. Vasquez...along with Lt. Gorman, she gave her life so that her compatriots might have a chance to live. This is her song. Que valor, soldada! Siempre Fidelidad! Que Viva Vasquez! |
"Carefree"
Style: Carribean Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 07 Mar 1997 |
When writing this tune, I envisioned myself walking along a beautiful Caribbean beach. |
"Gaussian Surface"
Style: Techno Tracker: FastTracker v2.08 Released: 05 Mar 1997 |
This is my first attempt at a FT2 tune, so don't laugh too hard when you hear it. I still say ST3 is easier to use, especially when it comes to playing around with different samples, although I'm beginning to enjoy all of the other goodies FT2 has to offer. |
"Lacrimosa de Cristo"
Style: Contemplative Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 31 Jan 1997 |
The title means 'The Tears of Christ' in Spanish. If we are each a part of the Body of Christ, as St. Paul says, then aborted babies are the 'tears,' for there can be no doubt that Jesus loved the little children during his brief sojourn on this planet with us, and He loves them just as much now as He reigns with the Father in His Kingdom. His tears are not only for the babies, but for their mothers too, and for all of us who stand idly by as the slaughter of His innocents continues, day in and day out. May the Lord Jesus have mercy on us all. |
"Icy Sidewalks"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 20 Jan 1997 |
In the winter, the sidwalks around Ohio State Univ. are treacherous. I've already fallen at least once, and I have no intention of allowing a repeat per- formance. May this song serve as a reminder to me and all the other disabled students here that when Old Man Winter makes His presence known, it's best to take 'er slow and easy. |
"Praise God, Ye Men of Earth"
Style: Inspirational/Spiritual Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 11 Jan 1997 |
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow / Praise God, ye men of Earth below / Praise God, for He's the Worthy One alone / Praise God, praise God, praise God! Words and music copyright(c) 1997 by Jack R. Voltz. |
"Toys in da House"
Style: TV/Movie Themes Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 01 Jan 1997 |
A few months ago, I bought a 'Toy Story' video for my son. Little did I realize how much the little guy would become attached to it. When I saw him watch it, day after day, memorizing each character's part, I knew I had to write a song about the experience, and here it is. Dedicated to my son, Jeremiah, 1/1/1997. |
"Expendable"
Style: Techno Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 30 Dec 1996 |
In the race for space, our astronaut force has become expendable. Exploration, yes, but at what cost? Sure, there are men and women willing to lay down their lives for the advancement of human knowledge, but must we pay such a high price? Remember the lessons that Challenger taught us-- let's not rush off to another space disaster. Let's take whatever time we need and do it right! |
"A Perfect World"
Style: Latin Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 25 Dec 1996 |
Okay, so the world isn't a perfect place. In fact, in it's present state, there's very little (if anything) that *is* perfect. Yet there will come a day when Perfection will once again walk this lonely orb we call home--His name is Jesus, and He will lead us to a truly Perfect World. |
"Calypso Christmas"
Style: Seasonal Favorites Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 23 Dec 1996 |
This song combines a traditional Christmas melody with a bit of calypso music. |
"Me Gusta Techno"
Style: Techno Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 23 Dec 1996 | The title means 'I like techno' in Spanish, although this compo would probably be more properly classified as rave. Either way, they're both cool kinds of music. Greets to Moby, Sidewinder, and all the other cool dudes who 'let' me rip their hard-earned samples! |
"Requiem For Ripley"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 19 Dec 1996 |
Lt. Ellen Ripley--you know her as the last survivor of the refinery *Nostromo*--fought a valiant battle against a alien creature and triumphed--only to die an inglorious death on a chunk of rock known as Fiorna. This is her requiem--may we all remember her in our hearts forever. |
"Bad Reception"
Style: Techno Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 18 Dec 1996 |
Nowadays, radios come equipped with digital tuners, but in the good old days, you had to fiddle with the tuning dial for quite a while to get the best possible reception. This song is dedicated to the days of 'bad reception,' when even though the reception was lousy, life was a mite simpler in the world. |
"Dad's Birthday Song, 1996"
Style: Country Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 27 Nov 1996 |
What do you give a Dad who already has everything (aside from that motor home which you can't afford)? Give him a song, of course. This one is dedicated to my Dad on his birthday, 1996. |
"Jerry's Birthday Song--1996"
Style: Piano Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 19 Oct 1996 |
A piano melody dedicated to my beautiful and talented son, Jeremiah, on his 7th birthday. |
"Can it Be?"
Style: Contemplative Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 30 Aug 1996 |
This song was originally composed sometime in 1994. It's dedicated to 33 million unborn martyrs, victims of an incredibly legal massacre of innocents--abortion--more horrific than anything Herod the Great could have ever dreamed up. The song is told in the voice of an unborn child who is about to be aborted. |
"Remix of 'Salve Regina'"
Style: Inspirational/Spiritual Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 23 Aug 1996 |
I was inspired to write this by the movie 'Sister Act.' Not long ago, I went to mass and we sang the song. I normally love the tune, but the tempo the music director used was _painfully_ slow. When I returned home, I decided to try my own hand at a more upbeat version like the one in 'Sister Act.' |
"Agent of Destruction"
Style: Techno Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 21 Aug 1996 |
A secret-agent type theme. I got the title by thinking about what secret agents do for a living--destroy things. |
"Pap-Pap's Birthday Song, 1996"
Style: Swing Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 20 Aug 1996 |
I had to try my hand at swing--and my father-in-law's birthday provided the perfect opportunity since this is his favority type of music. |
"Cry of my Soul"
Style: Inspirational/Spiritual Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 16 Aug 1996 |
I composed this haunting melody to remind me that, even though my _conscious_ mind may turn away from God, my _subconscious_ (my soul) cries out to be near Him and answer His call to draw near even when my physical body refuses. |
"LV426--Alien Hell"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 12 Aug 1996 | Remember that hunk of rock known as 'LV426' from the movie 'Aliens?' This .MOD was inspired by the movie and another .MOD called 'AlienBreed3BSD.fz' (available from the Washington University Data Archive. ) |
"Sore Toe"
Style: Light Rock Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 08 Aug 1996 |
I wrote this song while laid up at home after a toe operation. If you listen to the melody carefully, you can just make out 'oh-my-sore-toe...oh-my-sore-toe...' :) |
"Rapture"
Style: Inspirational/Spiritual Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 07 Aug 1996 | No, this ain't what Blondie had in mind...this 'Rapture' is
the one you can read about in the Bible. The song contains
four movements:
|
"coconut grove"
Style: Carribean Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 07 Aug 1996 | This song sounds similar to the Beach Boy's hit, 'Key Largo.' |
"The Booty Shake"
Style: "Scene" music Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 01 Aug 1996 | Happy Birthday to me! |
"Congo Bongo"
Style: Techno Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 25 Jul 1996 |
This hopping tune will give you that extra 'kick' you need to make it out of bed. Listen to it and you can tell I'm a bongo nut. |
"Native Son"
Style: Ambient/atmospheric Tracker: ModEdit v3.0 Released: 24 Jul 1996 |
This tune is dedicated to America's native sons and daughters, all of us, no matter what color we may be. Ya- ta-hey! (hello) to all Native Americans. |
"A Bit of Beethoven, a Bit of Bach"
Style: Contemplative Tracker: Scream Tracker v3.21 Released: 23 Jul 1996 |
There was a time 'way back when' when I had tunes floating around in my head that I had no way to save for posterity, since I didn't know enough about music to record the songs to paper. Thus it was that I created my own little music program which I could use to store my tunes and play them back on the PC speaker. This little tune was the first of my compositions in that medium, which I just recently converted to .S3M format. |
Answering Machine Message using "Get Smart" Theme and Don Adams (aka "Agent 86")" | Okay, just fer a few belly laughs, here's a RealAudio .RM file of an answering machine message I did for Christmas of '98. I also have the file in Impulse Tracker's IT format here". I also have the file on my machine recorded as a 4 Mb ZIP file, for those of you interested (the server here has a 1 Mb limit) -- send me email requesting it and I'll ship it to you. |

Good question. I'm still trying to figure that one out (if you have any clues, be sure to fill me in). |
Pirate Pete is my BBS (computer bulletin board) "handle." Many people have asked me how I came to choose such a distinctive nickname.
Several years ago, when I was still relatively new to "buzzing"
(using computer bulletin boards), I joined a local board called The
Amiga Island (run by SysOp Dennis Hennen, a.k.a. "The Griffon").
In keeping with the nautical motif of the board, I chose "Pirate Pete"
for a handle. Because the Amiga Island was frequented by younger members
of the "computer generation," and to let everyone know up front
that I was a Christian and should be expected to behave as such, I used
to tack on "the Christian Privateer" (see JESUS
IS LORD!) to my signature line in all of my e-mail (I still do, for
all of the above reasons).
Now that I've breached the Internet, I don't do much "buzzing"
any more, but I've retained the handle and persona of crusty old "Pirate
Pete"--so don't be surprised if you hear a hearty "Ya-har!"
now and again.
My real name is Jack Richard Voltz. I'm currently (ack) 40 years old (as of 8/1/98). Generally speaking, I refuse to be categorized...but if you absolutely must, here's some personal info.
