About the Christian Band Kurios

Kurios is a Christian Alternapop/Rock band formed in the summer of 1998. Since its inception, the band's primary goal has been to glorify the name of Jesus Christ through music, and to see people's lives touched by the message they present.

The members of Kurios (Liam Slack, lead vocals/guitar; Jeremy Aguiar, lead guitar/BGV's; Brian Yocum, bass; Jason Applegate, drums/percussion/BGV's) have a fervent desire to see the gospel spread through their music, by their personal testimony, and by example.

Kurios (pronounced "curious" - from the Greek for Lord, sovereign, or authority) has seen a tremendous amount of blessing and growth as a ministry since their humble beginnings, practicing weekly in a church sanctuary and playing out on the occasional weekend. The Lord has convicted the members of the group to take their ministry more seriously, opening doors and guiding them toward entering the ministry full time. As each door opens, the guys of Kurios have a renewed gratitude toward those who have supported the ministry thus far, and toward their God, who has blessed them so richly and given them the chance to further His kingdom in a way that is challenging, rewarding, and a whole lot of fun. From their start a year and a half ago until now, God has given the band some amazing opportunities, including the chance to play with such bands as Skillet, Big Tent Revival, and Clear, to name a few. Kurios was one of two bands chosen in the top ten performers for the National Association of Christian Artist and Songwriters' annual performance competition, the winners of which were selected out of over two thousand entrants. These top ten performers were brought to Nashville to showcase for top recording industry professionals.

The band has also recorded a full length CD, released on Promise Records, an independant label based in Blairstown, NJ., and were among very notable company on the bill for Vision Fest 2000 this past summer. The group has seen incredible responses and made fans wherever they've been blessed to play, and have been quite busy, playing 90 shows last year alone.

Kurios finds its strength in diversity, an ability to play and write in a large variety of styles and genres, yet somehow manages to lend their own unmistakable sound to any style they play. As the band's sound has developed, however, their music has matured, growing into a sound that has been likened to bands such as the Goo Goo Dolls, Vertical Horizon, Matchbox 20, Foo Fighters, Third Eye Blind, and the Gin Blossoms. They have also drawn comparisons to Big Tent Revival, Third Day, and the Newsboys. Their music is rife with soaring melodies, catchy hooks, and cutting lyrics.

Kurios is a band that is designed to glorify God. His Name is honored above all else in their music and their message. They are not interested in glorifying themselves. Of course they would love to be involved in music full time, and in order to do so they would need to be comercially successful. But if God should choose to keep them as a local band, their hearts are prepared to do that. It would seem, however, that God has big things in mind for this little band from eastern PA, and we all look forward to what God has in store for Kurios. God bless and thanks for reading.
