| BEFORE THE HAIR, SUNGLASSES, AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! | U2 was formed by 4 guys in highschool; Paul Hewson, Dave Evans, Larry Mullen Jr, and Adam Clayton. Originally Dave Evans'(The Edge)older bro was in the band. The band's first jam session was in Larry's Kitchen, and to be honest- they sucked. But the band impressed themselves, and that's all that mattered. They wrote their own songs because they couldn't do covers. They called themselves "Feedback" (cause thats the sound they made) then later "The Hype" cause thats what they wanted, but didn't have. They finally settled on U2 because of its many connotations. (And cause it sounded cool)Around the late 70's / early 80's they really started to go places, they had become famous in Dublin but had yet to reach world stardom. (The pic on the left is them playing at the Dandelion Market in '78) The Boys were finally noticed in the mid 80's and by the 1989 Rattle and Hum tour they were selling out stadiums around the globe. (U2 is one of only 3 bands on the planet that can sell out a stadium on both sides of the Atlantic) | |||||||||||||||||||

The latest U2 news is that the band has ONE more song to finish on their next CD. Rumours state that it could be released anytime from Christmas to mid 2000. A tour in smaller-then-stadium venues will follow. The CD was described as Bono as a "lovely soulfull album" It will apparently leave behind the "trip - hop" era of Actung Baby!, Zooropa and Pop returning to the acoustic style of the 80's. Unfortunately Bono has also been hinting that this could be their last album, saying he didn't want to be, nor did he expect it to be, but they were treating it like it was. | U2 CD NEWS! | |||||||||||||||||||

| EXPLANATIONS TO U2'S MYSTERIOUS WAYS |
Maybe you've just started liking U2 and are thinking "I have so much to learn" Well here are the basic ABC's of U2. MEMBERS Hopefully you know who's in U2, but if ya don't, here's the list: Bono, vocals and giutar; The Edge, giutar, backup vocals and piano; Adam Clayton, Bass Giutar (he also has a pretty nifty spoon collection); Larry Mullen Jr., drums and anything else, i.e. any other sound effects. BONO'S ALTER EGOS Bono has a theatrical side and enjoys playing "characters" at concerts. His 2 most famous are "The Fly" (Left) and "Mac Phisto" NICK NAMES Bono (Paul Hewson) got his nick name from a hearing aid store in the bands home town of Dublin called "BonaVox" (good voice in latin)The Edge (Dave Evans) got his from his sharp features. WHO'S THIS ALI PERSON I'VE BEEN HEARING ABOUT? Ali Hewson, a film producer, is Bono's wife. They were high school sweethearts and married in 1982. Sweetest Thing was written by Bono as an apology to her for missing her B - Day. OK WHAT'S "RATTLE AND HUM"???
