Derek Perry

Derek Perry serves as choreographer for Dance Planet. In addition to choreographing and dancing with the troupe, he mixes and edits the music used for Dance Planet performances as well as for other dance companies and artists. Derek has taught hip-hop/MTV style dance at several locations throughout the United States and has choreographed and performed for many different recording artists, dance companies and shows. Derek founded the dance troupe, Dance Planet, with his twin brother Doug in Rhode Island in 2000 and the group of professional dancers quickly became a crowd favorite performing at nightclubs, concerts, festivals and other exciting events. Upon moving to Los Angeles in late 2003, Derek started the west coast version of Dance Planet and he continues to choreograph and perform for the group as well as keeping very busy working for other choreographers and artists. Gioia Bruno (former member of Expose'), Kristine W, Rockell, and Thea Austin (Snap!, Thunderpuss), are just a few of the recording artists Derek has choreographed for and danced with on stage. He has also danced in music videos for artists Rebecca Simone, Prell, and Ashley Jordan. Prior to moving to LA, Derek choreographed and performed with many groups including Kinetic Energy, Fusionworks, Vessella Dance Project, and The Rhode Island College Dance Company. He also worked with choreographer Glenn Douglas Packard as a back-up dancer and dance captain for Chippendales: The show (Yes, the back-up dancers keep their clothes on!). Derek continues to dance in touring shows and has performed with Gioia in The Freestyle Explosion Arena Tour. He has also danced and choreographed for Sixx Carter's casino show engagements in Las Vegas. Despite his success, Derek is not just content with being on stage and in front of the camera; he is an accomplished DJ, remixer, and video editor. Derek has applied his remixing talents to songs by such varied artists as Lenny Kravitz and Celine Dion. The dance floor always gets packed when he plays his original mixes at a club and he recently completed a set of dance remixes for Sixx Carter's radio hit "Hypnotized". Derek masterfully edits creative promotional videos for singers, dance troupes, and other entertainers. His recent video projects include Kristine W's "Save My Soul" video.
