To Lay Me Down.... | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
I remember this. Somehow no one noticed this enough to remember to put it in the show review (I was too lazy myself). At 12/31/98, 1999 was out of control, which led to a pause and then a MIKE'S ---->H2---->Weekapaug that after a half an hour or so left PHISH standing, stunned in amazement of itself (themselves). Anyway, I cannot tell you how beautiful and amazing and how much really happened all before H2, but during that time, one really cool thing happened besides the thing that was so beautiful I can't even describe it, which was that these little "gremlin helpers" came out (I guess these people are friends of PHISH. They were all running around frolicing and looked like they were......ummm.... having FUN) and after a few minutes took Trey and Mike (While they were STILL PLAYING) and laid them down (just so<-------)in these organic looking pods and shut them (I think) and then opened (I am not 100% positive that there was any opening and shutting) and when Trey and Mike were lifted back up Mike had these cool glowing orange fluorescent stripes on his short sleeved T-shirt (which had stripes before, but now they were just glowing) and they glowed the whole rest of the show!!!!! Cool, huh? While I'm at it, one other really cool thing happened that no one mentioned in the reviews. You'll have to bear with me for one typewritten musical moment. OK, you know that part (here we go) in Harry Hood just before "Harry! (balls!) Harry! (balls!)Where do you go when the lights go out?" It's a little section of two or three chords (Bum.....bump bump bump bump) WELL...!!! Third set started at about 11:40 with the countdown on the scoreboard. Runaway Jim took us right up to Auld Lang Syne and, to quote someone from his review, "What better way to start the year than with SIMPLE!" Runaway Jim and Simple were each 20 minutes and then Harry! So, back to Bum....bump bump bump bump. At this point the stage was covered in balloons and all through Simple had Trey mowing down balloons with the pointy ends of his guitar strings (quite literally). Well, today, Trey did not want to just "jump in" to Harry and while they were in the Bum.....bump bump bump bump part he kept throwing this one balloon Waaayyyy up in the air and basically he was trying to have it come down and POP right at the WAAAANNNNNNGGGG just before "HARRY!" (you dig?) Easier said than done. I swear that most people at the show had no idea what the fuck he was doing and why the intro was taking so long. But there he was, Trey, center stage, having the rest of the band loop this one 4 bar part of the song just so he could get the balloon to come down right on the end of his guitar. I was right there with him, and "ooooohhhhh"-ed every time his missed, which ended up being EVERY TIME because it didn't happen, and I swear he tried maybe 10 or 15 times (it took like 5-10 min). Check out the tape. It happened. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
I am interested in collecting and trading analog Phish tapes and guitar, psychedelic studies, DJ's, and Noam Chomsky. I have also positioned myself AGAINST marijuana prohibition and the war against "certain" drugs (the so called "DRUG WAR" which is just another excuse to spend money on the WAR MACHINE now that we have no Russin patsy to blame) neolibralism, the Media Monopoly and the Military-Industrial Complex, the Prison-Industrial Complex, and the parasites that fuel these machines with their insatiable greed (CEO's, "business people" polititians, generals and their money hungry lackeys). READ NOAM CHOMSKY...he tells the truth. |
