Pianist Offers Monumental Haydn Sonata Series

"...the kind of playing that one suspects only a handful of pianists in this country could present. It was absolutely overpowering."

Neil Harris, Winnipeg Free Press review. (Canada)

The gifted Canadian pianist, Laurie Duncan, offers a recital series so challenging and rare, it is currently not offered anywhere else in the world. He has memorized all 43 Haydn piano sonatas contained in the Peters' Catalogue and is offering to perform them chronologically in an eight concert series anywhere in the world, at reasonable cost. Challenging recitals are not new to Duncan, he memorized all twenty-four preludes and fugues from J.S. Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I, and performed them in one concert. He has also performed Bach's Goldberg Variations, Beethoven's phenomenally difficult and rarely performed Hammerclavier Sonata and the Diabelli Variations, as well as Balakirev's rarely heard pyrotechnical showpiece Islamey: an Oriental Fantasy.

Duncan has three university degrees, including a Master's of Music in Piano and literature. He also holds an Associateship from the Royal College of Music in London, England. He has performed in Canada, the United States, and extensively in Western Europe, including Germany, France, and Switzerland.
