Gary Husband
Billy Cobham Gig 1995.

"COBHAM CLOBBERS 'EM" - BILLY COBHAM INTERNATIONAL QUARTET.
With Gary Husband - Drums/Keyboards (Allan Holdsworth's band), Kai Eckhardt - Basses (John McLaughlin's band) and Peter Wolpl - Guitar.
(Zoo Bar East, Toronto, Canada, March 21, 1995)

"Veteran drummer Billy Cobham proved once and for all that jazz can be testosterone driven as any male-orientated music. With his aptly described power trio of guitarist Peter Wolpl, bassist Kai Eckhardt and Gary Husband on both keys and a secondary drum kit, Cobham punched through a lead-heavy avalanche of prog jazz/rock to the delight of the beefy Zoo Bar East (formerly the Spectrum) crowd. Contrary to his recent work as a producer for Peter Gabriel's Real world label, and his intelligently diverse new album ("The Traveler"), this night Cobham left little to nuance or lyricism. This set was loud, heavy and thick, with thundering solos at a rapid machine gun pace. There was Wolpl's screechy licks, Husband's retrograde Moog fills and chunky chords, ?frequently, Husband also jumped in for a double-drum attack - suffice to say neither demonstrated much brushwork this night. It was electric jazz for cavemen, who out-numbered females about 8 to 1. Mind you, the original Mahavishnu Orchestra drummer has always been a power hitter, and his crisp, snapping style burns with energy and adrenalin. It may not be such an intellectual affair, but at least it wasn't the rambling, Nyquil-inspired fusion we hear such a great deal of these days."
