NMS DRUM WEEKEND 1999. GARY HUSBAND - SEMINAR ROOM
(Wembley, London, November 26th 1999)

"He seems genuinely surprised at the number of people who arrive first thing on Sunday to check him out, but Gary Husband needn't be so humble. He is, after all, an unfeasibly talented multi-instrumentalist who's built a reputation as a player whose creative instincts are more important than career enhancing gigs. Bearing this in mind he's as good a keyboard player as he is a drummer, watching him storm through his set is a sobering experience.
His off-the-cuff unaccompanied solo, built on some truly dazzling bass drum patterns, sees Gary sweating up a storm and winning warm, well-deserved applause from the early risers. Such is the effort exerted in his first solo that Gary emerges from the kit and takes questions, to give himself a break as much as to connect with the audience. But he makes a very natural host, and the opportunity to get a rare insight into the man's creative drive is welcome. He covers everything from his new signature sticks and how he's managed to master two instruments, to the music he is writing for Evelyn Glennie and Terry Bozzio.
Gary concludes with a very brisk jazzy solo, dancing over his ride cymbal and playing enthrallingly close to his limits. It was a fine start to what promised to be quite a day."
