The Lost Continent of

We have organised the city as we have organised language.
The buildings are communicating with one another, using people as words.
From the window of that high-rise tower, I watch men and women breathed between doors.

From the air, the networks of streets seem like a cortical diagram.
I see suburban cul-de-sacs braceleted in the lights of houses like neurons branched off the axons of the brain.
As if the City planners had consciously decided to mirror cerebral structures.

As if when we built the City we wanted to decorate the geography with the shapes of our own intellect.
As if we desired to race from building to building just as our thoughts run through the channels of the mind.
