Everybody is able to learn how to drum, just as everyone
can sing. It only takes a little practice and time. In these
workshops, we learn different rhythms from Ghana, Senegal, and
Guinea and how to create music. First, we just feel the rhythm,
using our voices, hands and feet to get into it. Then we put
the rhythm on our drums, bells, shakers and other small instruments
and accompany them with an African song. In this universe of
sound, rhythm and joy, we start listening to each other and discover
the feeling of a tribal gathering. We become available to the
magical force of the drum beat, letting our bodies move and be
guided by the rhythm. Step by step, we regain our natural authentic
movements. We work with some African dance movements, simple
choreographs, spontaneous improvisations and games.
