Remember "Bye Bye Blues"- "Red Roses for a Blue Lady" - "Wonderland by night"? - they were all million selling hit records by the fabulous Bert Kaempfert Orchestra of the 60
The good news for all music fans is that the Kaempfert Orchestra has been reformed by Tony Fisher, lead trumpet in the Orchestra throughout the 70's in co-operation with the Kaempfert family in Hamburg,Germany. The Orchestra comprises a full seventeen piece big band, plus a string section and voices playing all the original arrangements of the Kaempfert hits, in addition to many other recordings covering many aspects of musical taste from the beautiful soft textures of "Spanish Eyes" through the afrikaan type "A Swingin Safari" to the straight ahead big band favourites such as "Take the A Train" and "2 O'clock Jump" - all with the very distinctive Kaempfert touch. Bert kaempfert was also a highly successful songwriter as well as a bandleader, for example his "Strangers in the Night" was recorded by no less than Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior, "Love" by Nat King Cole,"Spanish Eyes" by Al Martino - the list is endless - Peggy Lee, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Vic Damone, Shirley Bassey - all have recorded songs from the Kaempfert pen. As you may remember the Orchestra was at the peak of its popularity selling millions of albums, and in fact, had just concluded a highly successful UK tour when Bert died tragically in June 1980. Bandleader and trumpet soloist Tony Fisher says, "In my 30 years experience playing in almost every Orchestra in England and indeed throughout Europe I thought it tragic that all that high quality music was left unheard or performed, so I got together with the Kaempfert family and we jointly decided to re-launch the whole thing, including a new digital album. Keep an eye on your local press for details of the Kaempfert Orchestra concerts in your area and you could be in for a rare musical treat.
Tony started playing at a very early age and by the time he was 13 years old worked as a solo artist in theatres and concert halls throughout Great Britain. He later toured with many of the "name" bands of the day including Eric Delaney,Ted Heath etc., eventually settling in London in 1965 to do television and recording work which ranged from albums with The Beatles to Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nelson Riddle, Henry Mancini and so on. At the same time he worked extensively in Europe in widely varying musical situations, such as the jazz orchestra of Kenny Clarke-Francy Boland, a classical brass ensemble of the Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, and of course the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra. Tony also has a solo album entitled "Extracting the Digital".
