Welcome to the New Mexico POAAFA. We are the Portrait of an
American Family Association, an organization started to prevent
the censorship of the controversial band Marilyn Manson, but we
have branched out. We fight for the rights of musicians,
students, businesses and just about any other group or person
that someone is attempting to limit or censor.
The name of our organization comes from the first Marilyn Manson album, "Portrait of an American Family" and combines the album name with the Christian group the American Family Association. We are in no way affilited with Marilyn Manson or the AFA. We are an independent group of people who volunteer our time, energy and talents to make America and the world a better and freer place to live, while making it safe for all opinions to be voiced.

ThreeSixNine, and I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I am 19
years old, and rather quiet. I do not dress like a goth or a
heavy metal groupie, I'm almost preppy, and, although I love
Marilyn Manson, that is not the only reason I'm a member. I went
to Albuquerque Academy for 7 years, and was sheltered the whole
time. Anything contoversial (except for homosexuality) is
basically banned by the Administration. I want everyone to have a
chance to experience life outside of institutions that think they
know what's best for you. Feel free to e-mail

Right now the POAAFA is
fighting the censorship of the Jerry Springer show. There are
many advertisers that are pulling their ads from the show because
of the violence. As many of you know, the Springer show is on
when young children are home and have the possibility of seeing
this. Obviously, this is not good, but neither is the pulling of
the ads. There needs to be a compromise made between the show and
the advertisers. Either: A) move the show to a very late time
slot; B) edit out most of the violence and cussing or C) do both.

As I said above, the POAAFA started out as a group of people who were fighting for the group Marilyn Manson's rights, as concerts were being cancelled by venues because of supposed inappropriate content. since this time, the group has branched out to fight many things, but mostly we are in support of the First Ammendment, which states that everyonehas the right to free speech. We are almost an entirely web-based organization, we have no headquaters that doesn't start with "http://" and all members of the POAAFA volunteer their time and talents. Currently, there is almost no group we are not willing to help, and when the KKK was being censored, we had a big discussion on our mailing list (which is the only way we really have of communicating with each other) about whether we should fight for something which for many people was against their morals. Many people in the POAAFA decided that it wasn't our place to judge, but to fight for the KKK's First Ammendment rights. And those people did just that.

or just can just help us in one particular battle that upsets
you. It's easy, but sometimes time consuming. If you live in New

To me, the POAAFA is a
way to get out all my frustrations about many things. It gives me
a battle to fight, and a worthwhile battle too. And it helps that
most of the people are fans of Marilyn Manson. As shocking as it
may seem to many people, Marilyn Manson has helped me through
many tough times in my life. He sees things differently than most
people, and that's refreshing. Unfortunately, this scares the
ca-ca out of many people, and people tend to fear what they don't
understand. I like to think that I'm helping to increase the
world's knowledge.
