Burnout: Championship Drag Racing

This game is similar to Street Rod (originally developed in 1990), in that you race drag cars.

Bethesda announced today that their drag racing game Burnout: Championship Drag Racing has been pushed back to March 1998. Ashley Cheng, spokesguy for Bethesda stated, "We will not release this game before its ready. The extra time lets us include some e xtra features which will make it a better game."

• 20 unique cars, from the classic '34 Ford Roadster to the powerful '97 Corvette
• 20 unique tracks, including authentic venues from accurately modeled altitude, weather patterns, and lane attributes
• Dozens of customizable components for players to tweak to perfection, from the engine, suspension, tires, and aerodynamics
• 32 telemetry and time card data points are recorded to analyze player's performance
• Accurate physics including spectacular crashes and explosions, and realistic modeling of engine
• Tires deform and change shape during burnout
• Fully customizable dashboard
• Replay, save and exchange your best races or crashes using the VCR feature
• Multiple methods of play including practice, single race, event or compete over an entire season
• Multi-player support over modem, LAN and internet

You can download the demo of Burnout from these locations, it requires a Pentium 75 and 16 Mb of ram.
The demo is 7.1mb in size.

Patch Version 1.23

• Fixed a problem that caused version 1.22 to work incorrectly on mplayer.com.
• Fixed a problem in the engine setup that allowed unrealisticly large valve sizes in an engine with a bore size too small to accommodate them. NOTE: This may cause some of your saved car setups to have invalid engine combinations, so you should double check all of your engines and fix them if this is the case. If you have an engine that ends up being affected by this version, you can choose "Auto Calculate" on the ENGINE - valve size pulldown, and readjust them to get your motor running again.
• Updated Network Version checking for game compatibility. You must be running the same version of Burnout as the Host machine.

Patch 1.22

• Fixed a problem with the cars center of gravity that appeared as a new bug in version 1.21.
• Fixed a rev limiting problem with the Two Step.
• Changed the Line Lock back to the way it was in version 1.20. The 1.21 implementation needs more work.
• Fixed some sound bugs that occur during network games.
• Fixed a bug that wouldn't allow you to exit the game after racing in a network event under certain circumstances.
• Made some changes in the network code to fix some other problems.
• Updated Network Version checking for game compatibility. You must be running the same version of Burnout as the Host machine.
• Fixed a bug in the driver stats update during network races.

The 1.21 patch for Burnout: Championship Drag Racing includes several enhancements to the physics to improve the realism of the game. Old setups may become invalid with these improvements. Also, more tweaks to both single player and multiplayer gameplay.

Bethesda has a pack of 27 new cars for Burnout: Championship Drag Racing.

Installation Instructions from Bethesda's Site

1. Go to your CARS directory (usually C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Burnout/Cars)
2. In that window select 'VIEW' (at the top) then 'ARRANGE ICONS' then 'By TYPE'
3. Now Copy all of the '.CAR' and '.GRP' files to a new location (this will back-up any repaints you have on your system)
4. After you have completed the back-up, DELETE ALL of the '.CAR' and '.GRP' files
5. With your BURNOUT CD in, browse to the 'CARS' directory on the CD
6. Copy all of the '.CAR' and '.GRP' files from the CD to your C:/Program Files/Bethesda/Burnout/Cars directory.
7. Install (UNZIP) the 94 Mustang into the same directory (available at the bottom of this page)
8. Install (UNZIP) the carpack into the same directory.
