If Sony wants to make a new and radical graphics engine to power the PSX 2, what will it be? Will the Playstation 3 be the first console to go DVD? What's the Sun connection? Lets face it the PSX 2 will be huge. But right now not much is known. We don't even know is PSX 2 will be it's real name! Sony's head honcho Ken Kutaragi talk about how he wants games to look real and not like games with a new non polygonal graphic technique. This raises some important questions. First, what the &$*# is it? Secondly, how will developers work with it? Also, what will how will it effect the price tag? This really could be anything from the most cutting edge graphics ever to an all FMV system. I just can't help but wonder what it will be. Sony is the biggest media company in the world that has brought out some of the most cool electronics out there, could this be another? Another thought on this new system is how easy game development will be. Right now the PSX is the most easiest CONSOLE system to develop for, but Sega's Dreamcast using Windows CE will change all that. Heck, you might be able to make your own games with the Dreamcast system alone! The PSX2 will be a real challenge for developers if it uses the new a new graphics technique. Programmers could be almost clue less. There is some hope however. Several months back there were some stories about Sony signing a contract with Sun Computers/Microsystems. Sun Systems are extremely powerful computers and could be the source code of the new graphics engine. The last question raised is how much will it cost! With all this research and development going into it and the probability of a DVD ROM and other neat toys, it will have to be expensive. So this is what we know as of now : 1.) DVD ROM is a strong possibility (Sony made some hints about one) 2.) NEW graphics engine that is said to blow away the polygonal engines of today. 3.) Contract with Sun Computers. 4.) Possible Web TV Plus What you just read is everything that is known about the PSX2. Sony is keeping a tight lid on this system, and for good reason. It has the possibility to be the most revolutionary system around, and if Sony keeps the technology secret until the release and patent it, the PSX2 could take the competition off guard. But if the system ends up to be a dud, then the next generation PSX could be the worst idea this side of the Sega 32X. Processor Speed : ????? Graphics : New graphics engine never seen before Sound : ???? Game Format : Probally DVD Games : ???? Modem : Rumors of WebTV+ Launch date : 1999-2000 Companies involved : Sony, Maybe Sun Microsystems As news comes out on the PSX 2, this section will grow and the question marks will disappear.
