What is a Web Ring?
A Web Ring is a collection of related web sites linked together to form a circle, or ring. It allows visitors to member sites to easily jump to adjacent member's pages, eventually returning to their starting point. Beyond this basic concept, it provides an easily accessible format to find and navigate sites of interest. From the webmaster point of view, it generates greater exposure for your site.

What sites can join the Magestorm WebRing?
In short, any site dealing with the online role playing Magestorm! Regardless of site complexity, if it contains Magestorm information in any of its multitude of forms, your site is not only welcome to join, but is also encouraged to.

Why should I take the time to join?
Several reasons come to mind:

  • To strengthen the Magestorm community

  • To provide easy access to Magestorm information for new users

  • To provide easy access to your guilds sites

  • To increase the number of people who see all the work you've put into your site

Bottom line, regardless of how great your site is, or how outstanding the information contained within is, if people don't know about it, it becomes just some HTML files on a server somewhere. Besides, it only requires a one time commitment of about 15 minutes.

Why should I join this ring?
There may be a couple of other MageStorm WebRings out there, but this ring offers a few guarantees.

  • I promise permanence. As long as there are members of this ring, I will be here to administer it, and the address will never change. (Maybe in the future I will get my domain name)

  • I promise proper maintenance. No dead links!

  • I promise constant improvement.

  • I promise to actively seek new additions. We will grow, and with our increase in size you'll see a proportional increase in your site traffic.

  • I promise timely member support. If you have a question, it will be answered ASAP.

  • I promise it's real easy join J

How do I join?

  1. Click on the "JOIN" link above. Fill out and submit the application to enter the queue (see What's a queue below).

  2. Place the Magestorm WebRing HTML code in your main page HTML file. You will have the opportunity to copy this code from the web after you submit your application, and it will be sent to you via email. It will come pre-configured for your site (no need to alter it whatsoever). Just copy, paste, post, and your job is complete!

  3. Once your application has been received and the placement of the Magestorm WebRing code has been confirmed, you'll be moved from the queue to the ring.

What does the Magestorm WebRing HTML code do?
It places the image found at the top right corner of this page somewhere on your web site. There's no need to download the image, its located on my server. This will allow me to update it, without making everyone download it time after time.

Where do I insert the Magestorm WebRing HTML Code?
The HTML code must be inserted into your welcome (index, main, enter, etc.) page. In other words, what ever the URL you give to the Magestorm WebRing, should be the page that the code is inserted in. Let me explain why. In order for the ring concept to work, visitors must have easy access to the Magestorm WebRing logo, since it is this that allows them to navigate the ring. If the visitor has to "look" for the ring logo, and hence runs the risk of not finding it, it defeats the purpose of the ring. Since everyone has to have a "start" page on their site (no gaurantees of a "links" page or any other specialty page), it makes the most sense to make it standard practice to insert it there.

What if I join the ring, but don't insert the HTML code?
From the time you submit the membership form, you have 2 weeks to insert the HTML code into your site. At the end of two weeks, if the system doesn't detect the Magestorm WebRing code on your start page (and if I can't find it elsewhere to over ride the system) you will be dropped from the queue. You can reapply if you simply overlooked the need to add the code, and still want to be a part of the ring. If you have any difficulties or concerns about the code, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I'm already a member of a ring, can I still join this one?
Certainly! You still will have to include the code to this ring, but if you'd like you can be a member of both.

    Whats a queue?
Its a holding pen of sorts. Just like printing jobs are queued prior to being sent to the printer, your site will be queued prior to completion of steps 2 and 3 above and its eventual move to the ring proper (a span of a few hours to a few days depending on the timeliness of 2 and 3).

I moved my site to a new URL, can I change it in my Magestorm WebRing info?
Sure can. Just click the "EDIT" link above enter your ring number and password and edit away.

Great,,,huh,,I forgot those, what now?

What if the webring says "Locked"
If it says that when your submiting a site, it means that I have updated the page just a minute ago and it should be back up in about 1-3 minutes.
