This is known as the BLAME-A-FRIEND phenomenon: You see, a friend of mine told me I should check out DAMARK. (www.damark.com) He said there was tons of cool stuff. Neato Stuff. Gadget Stuff. You-cant-name-it-all-stuff. I said wow, ok. and went to www.damark.com I requested the catalog. I got it a few days later and said WOW! THIS IS NEAT! MY FRIEND WAS RIGHT! So I placed an order for over 400 bucks! Thats when my problems began. The order didnt arrive when I expected it too. Seems they opted for the "ship it when we get good and ready to option" rather than the next day as I was told would be done by the salesman. So I called and requested a UPS (www.ups.com) tracking number. Having previously been employed by a a company that shipped alot of merchandise (as in MORE REMOTE-CAR-STARTERS than ANY OTHER COMPANY) I knew this should be no problem. Would you believe they didnt want to give out the tracking number? WHY!!?? They wouldnt. But after being hung up on twice, by my third call I managed to get it by talking to the person who took my order. Turns out they are paid on commision. "If you dont figure out how to give me the damn number I will cancle the order!" That finally hit home. I got my tracking number, and about a week later I got my packages and swore to myself I would NEVER deal with a DAMARK again. UPDATE: 9/1/98 It has been 1 month since my dissapointing experience with DAMARK. Now it is BEYOND DISSAPOINTING! This month they have decided for me that I would like to join the "Preferred buyers Club" at a cost of 59.99 US FUNDS! Interesting thing is I have never even heard of the "Preferred Buyers Club." No mention of this or any other club was made during my purchase. I didnt notice anything in the catalog about it either. Currently, Damark has told me this is a LEGITIMATE CHARGE!!! I am in the process of disputing this charge with my bank- First Union. ( www.firstunion.com if you want to check them out. I have had nothing but good luck from First Union.) I fully intend to collect from DAMARK through ANY AND ALL CHANNELS AVAILABLE TO ME INCLUDING THE COURTS: A) My 59.99 dollars B) All expenses related to collecting the 59.99 C) Any Fines and Leveys against my account or person as a result of Damark ILLEGALLY STEALING MY MONEY. Did you know that in virginia you MAY HAVE TO PAY A FINE FOR NOT HAVEING CAR INSURANCE!? Well, you guessed it!! I live pay check to pay check, and now dont have the money to fully pay my insurance, So I may be subject to a fine. All because of ILLEGAL ACTIVITY BY DAMARK. Just think. If I have an accident while I dont have insurance , I think DAMARK will be found accountable for paying the expenses. Especially considering that I would have had insurance if not for the ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES OF DAMARK. DAMARK- "The GREAT deal companay!" HAHAHAHAH. WHATEVER. Let them STEAL your money, but dont say I didnt warn you! Somehow, the "Preferred Buyers Club" Doesnt Seem appropraite. Especially since I PREFERRED *NOT* to buy... UPDATE 10/21/98 I recently recieved credit to my account in the amount of 59.99!! HURRAY! Also- A DAMARK REP said they would credit me for the 10 percent of my purchase would have qualified for had i "really been a preferred buyers club member" I havent recieved any such credit, but they did mail me a WORTHLESS coupon for 15 bucks. HAHAHA. I guess they figured I would use it. Ill have you know it has been FRAMED! I have no intent to EVER order anything from those evil skunks again! Theve eaten enough flies already. I dont dare to think I could be as lucky getting out of the trap a second time. UPDATE- Having recently switched jobs, it is a good feeling to know that if I ever encounter a DISHONEST company like DAMARK that "BORROWS" (after all, the did return it.) a lousy 60 bucks from me I wont be thouroughly screwed when my bills are due. CHECK THIS STORY OUT: Hello: My ordeal began innocently enough, I bought a couple of speakers for a great price, they sent them right away. No problems so far. Then I opted for the "Preferred Buyers Club" (yeah, yeah stop snickering 8^)) and bought a couple of things in excess of $600.00. Well, two weeks went by and I called them, "the order had been shipped and they could not do anything about it" no tracking numbers, no responsability. In addition, even though it was billed to a Visa, they had no idea where exacly it had been shipped!! To make a long story short, five months later the lamp arrived (by sheer luck) to my cousin's (also a FORMER DAMARK client) house (apparently they screwed up my last name and VOILA, a ton of stuff he did not order arrived at his doorstep. Fortunately for me, he gave me a call and the stuff was finally home. Needless to say, I got my Visa refunded by Damark after suing their butts. (and kept the stuff too!) Blade Email [email protected] ________THE LATEST STORIES____________________ Goldie tells us: I purchased an item MCSFT Office '97 Videos 6pk. When I received it the one tape Access tape was damaged! I called the next morning and told the Customer Returns about it! The man employee stated it was not a problem and will ship another Access tape out right away! I asked should I return the entire set, He said, No. I asked should I return the one tape. He said, No. It would all be taken care of. This happened on 10/21/98. I am still waiting for a tape or something!!!! I now cannot not return my product, it is after 30 days!!!!! This is some kind of a Joke on me I suppose. You call in they confirm your problem and do absolutely nothing about it. So you wait thinking it was taking care of and the product would arrive and you never receive it and in the mean time you ran out of 30 days period return policy!!!!! It a ripe off!!! I now have a damaged tape which is useless to me and it just so happens to be the reason I bought the tapes was to learn Access!!!!!! I tried to call and you always get the same response. Please call back at another time when more representitives would better serve you in a more timely fashion!!!!!! I have emailed them. If I don't get a response soon, I will never purchase an Item from them ever again!!!!!! _________________________ Charles has this to say: Dear Fellow DAMARK Haters, Since it's been impossible to communicate with DAMARK directly, by mail or telephone, I tried to find their web page to see if I could reach them through there - and I found your HATE DAMARK page. I wanted to find out why my credit card had a $59.99 charge. When I tried the telephone number that came with the credit card charge, I failed to get through for days, ("Please try at a later time") but finally got through today and learned that "you cannot complete the call without a valid four-digit code, so please hang up and start again"! They certainly have protected themselves from their customers! There was no advice on how to get such a password, or explanation of why a password was needed. At least now I know something about what that $59.99 stands for. I think that neither my wife nor I have EVER bought anything from DAMARK, though apparently we made the mistake of giving them our credit card number some years ago. Maybe we've been charged this amount every year since then and never noticed it before! (MasterCharge folks could tell me nothing about the company or what the charge was for. I've asked them to refuse payment.) Anyway thanks for making it possible for DAMARK customers to gripe to each other at least. It's nice to know that some people managed to get their $59.99 back! I'm going to keep trying; if you know a way of reaching a human being at DAMARK, it'd be helpful if you could post that information. Yours, Charles ___________Heres JAMES!_________ Dear Blade: There I was, surfing the Net, trying to find the street address for DAMARK International and I came across your neat HATE DAMARK page. I was looking for the address to include it in the letters that I'm writing to my credit card company and to the Better Business Bureau. I didn't have their address because anything I receive from them goes immediately into the trash. I ordered some merchandise from DAMARK. What I received was of good quality, at a reasonable price, and delivered in a reasonable time. So far, so good - just one little problem - I used my credit card to make the purchase and now DAMARK has my card number! One evening a few months back, right in the middle of supper, I received a telephone call from some fast-talking mush-mouth who first wanted to confirm that I had made a purchase from DAMARK and confirm my current address. They wanted to sell me the DMK "Great Deal Pack". I told them that I was not interested, that I never make any purchase based on a telephone solicitation. The following month a charge for the Great Deal Pack appeared on my credit card statement. I had to write my credit card company a letter explaining the whole thing before getting the charge reversed. Having had credit card charges reversed should send the merchant a message but apparently not the dummies at DAMARK International. The evening of December 14, 1998 I received another mush-mouth, speed-talking telephone call from them, again trying to sell me the "Great Deal Pack" I emphatically told them NO! I explained that they had falsely charged my credit card previously and I'd had it reversed. I told them "DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!" Can you guess what was on the credit card statement I received today? That's right - $54.99 for the "Great Deal Pack". If I can join with others in actions to stop this despicable company from ripping off folks please let me know James ______________ There ya go James! Your a FIGHTER! (Did I mention I hate DAMARK??) ;) _______________ Edward mentions, and I thoroughly agree: I have been billed for three consecutive for items and services I didnot order. The 1st time was forgivable but the third time is suspect. This pattern of business indicates company supported policy. I wonder how many others are victimized this way? If there are more out there please speak up so we can have enough numbers to blow this thing real wide and call 60 minutes or 20/20!!!! Common! there is strenght in numbers! ________________________________ Tom and Renee had this to say: I, too am a victim of Damark..I have been a customer for about three years and really had no problems..bought lots of good stuff at great prices, used their 4 pay plan and 6 pay plan without problems.. Then starting early last year I began to get a lot of telephone solicitation from companies apparently aligned with Damark...travel clubs, health and vision, buyers clubs, auto clubs and etc. I always said NO...and even called Damark to request my name be removed from these lists and no more calls be made...It didn't"t help...Suddenly charges for these services? began to appear on my credit card without approval..I'd call and dispute and some were removed and some were not, some partially removed ..it has been a nightmare and cost me overlimit fees and needless interest and frustration...If you deal with this company beware..and be informed. They do have good products and good prices, but I do not recommend that they get a hold of your credit card number ...deal with check or money order and save yourself a lot of grief...RENEE
