"We are paid for our suspicions by finding what we suspect."

"Beware of the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
"When the drums of war have reached a fervor pitch, and the blood boils with hate and the mind is closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader, and do it gladly so.
"How do I know? I know, for this is what I have done."
Julius Caesar

"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."
-Hermann Goering

"In the most general terms, there are but two world views. One can take the view that life is sacred or that life is a commodity. A sacred view of life gives birth to feelings of duty, protection, and love. It emphasizes values of joy, beauty, happiness, and caring and sets up an internal constraint against the exploitation of other individuals, groups, or species. Our word sacred comes from the Latin sacer from the root seen also in sanus, sane. A sacred view of life, then, is a sane view of life. A commodity view is interested in profit, domination, and control. It seeks to "gain the world" and subjugate it to the will of man (and only "the fittest" men at that). At the core of the commodity view of life are two seeds: individual self-interest economics and man against nature technology. Planet earth is choking on these seeds. L.G. Boldt, Zen and the Art of Making a Living.
Have we not come to such an impasse in the modern world that we must love our enemies--- or else? The chain reaction of evil--- hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars--- must be broken, or else we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation. Martin Luther King, Jr.

When one practices a set of skills for 25+ years, it becomes more than just a hobby or an obsession; it becomes a life, a way, an intricate part of your existence. I've been gaming this long, and enjoying every minute of it. As you look through this site, I hope you find as much enjoyment as I have. What I have found to be the best, in my life, I bring to you....
The Philosophy pages explore adjuncts to my life's path. You'll find direct influences and things that I've found enriching; and perhaps a few opinions....
Garrison 188 is the entrance to DiskWars League Materials, Rulings and Garrison (Commander) Notes.
Disk Wars: The Articles, is slanted for new comers, but has something for everyone. A series of articles branch out from the main theme. Answers on whether you want to play; what you want to play; and strategic/tactical considerations are addressed.
Games You Should Be Playing contains reviews of (mostly) independent label games that I have found of extraordinary value. Usually these are the best bang for the buck games available. And easy to learn.

A Superior Miniatures System Across Many Genres.
While I am an original DiskWars DiskWarrior, through and through, FFG has produced second and third generation games that are (gasp!) improvements on the original system. Where DiskWars is an army level battle of 15-30+ disks best played on a 4x4 foot battlefield, Dead Lands: Doomtown Range Wars is a company level, man-to-man (and sometimes beast) shoot-out in the Old American Wild West. It really is a "Fist Full of Dollars" town take-over with shamans and the occasional phantasmic creature.
When one door closes, another opens: The most fortunate people got their hands on the Last Unicorn Games/ FFG collaboration that resulted in the Star Trek based Red Alert. With few regrets, this was/is currently the best ship to ship action game available. Unfortunately, for fans of the game, AvalonHasbroWotC bought LUG just as the game was being shipped. A-H-W decided/had to discontinue Red Alert. Absolutely fortunate for fans of disk games is that FFG retained the rights to the disk mechanics. As that fabled door opens, we have the second generation Third Imperium: Armada! In my opinion it is a very fine game and a worthy successor to the throne. Check it out by using the "Armada" link to the left.
