October 2 8:20 PM New Members (Well, duh), Old Yet New Members, A Couple of People Leaving, Empire = Áed Dúnlang
Two people who applied a while ago but whose applications I somehow did not see have also joined us: Renardo Ravensblade and Trizzen.
Fatebender (for reasons unknown) and Computeruser (whose in-game name I don't know, that's his name on the boards; and who didn't like the Initiate phase) are leaving the guild.
Empire decided that "Empire" didn't fit with the realm, and so has changed his name to Aed Dunlang.
September 30 8:00 AM Ridiculous Amount of New Members, Ocelot - Quick and dexterous
Well, it's been all of two days and we have the largest increase in membership ever...14 people. Marious, Ravenmoon, PowerBlasto, Tink, Valerin, Severian, Assassin, Tovah, Emeriz, Soldado, Xeos, Halir Hillvarg, Zykris, and Arcanus.
Ocelot, in keeping with his namesake (I think, not an expert on ocelot characteristics), is going to be a quick, sneaky character - and will be a Scout.
September 28 2:50 PM 4 New Members (No, it's not a repost from yesterday)
September 27 6:40 PM 4 New Members
September 26 6:00 PM Another Member
Archwin Savior has joined us, bringing our member total up to a whopping 95.
September 26 1:00 PM More Members (of course)
Blackstone, Otiluke, and Kedirallan (a beta tester) have joined us. Gothy - who was already a member in-game because her former guild, Vexillium Nox, wasn't formed, and whom many of you know from our boards or the last meeting - is now a member of The Emerald Circle as well.
September 24 7:50 PM More Members Again
September 24 5:55 PM More Members, Say Goodbye
To somewhat offset the good fortune of new members, Xal has decided to leave and play in Albion. He admits he changes his mind a lot though, so he might be back.
September 23 1:40 PM More Members
September 23 12: 15 AM A Couple More Guides
September 21 10:30 PM Guides
Some of you may know that for a while I've been putting together a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions for the ofCamelot message boards. I've now decided to split that FAQ into a number of Guides; smaller documents covering a specific topic. The first ones are up now, dealing with the Guardian classes of the Realm. The other class guides should be up within the next day or two, and other Guides will be coming soon - including Items, Guilds, Grouping, Quests, Trade Skills, Death, Combat, Magic, Interface, Realm vs Realm, and Leveling and Experience. Go to the Guides page now to check the first ones out.
September 21 4:30 PM New Members, New Screenshots
I've added some screenshots (only 5, actually) of the guild being formed in-game and a few of the emblem choices. More to come once someone gets level 20 and can put an emblem on an item..
September 20 5:30 PM We're In Beta (finally)!!!, New Members, Thieves Rejoice!
Finally, after a few failed attempts, we managed to form the guild in-game, with help of some random people who happened to be online and not in a guild. Myself, Ambiriox, Laraomma, Shem, Lazara, Zolares, Laom, and some people whose names I can't remember (sorry!), are now The Emerald Circle. Those in beta but who weren't there last night (including you MODF folks), message me sometime so we can meet up and I can invite you, and make any necessary changes to your ranks and such. And those who are in beta but who haven't sent in an application, please do so.
I've got the ranks set up to my satisfaction, and got us an emblem. Screenshots of creation and emblem-getting coming soon. (Note that you have to be level 20 or have 400 in a trade skill to get an emblazoned item, so I couldn't; I just set what the emblem will be once we can.)
One of the final large additions to the game, the thief classes, have been added! The entire text on thieves from the update notes....
THIEF CLASSES
=============
Thief classes make their debut in this version of Camelot. Each Realm has one thief. Albion has the Infiltrator, Midgard has the Shadowblade, and Hibernia has the Nightshade. Please note that the thief is not an easy class to play. It requires lots of strategy, and almost every combat will require some sort of planning.
The purpose of the thief is to be able to hide, sneak up on enemies, and execute deadly Critical Strikes that do a lot of damage. They then use a combination of normal combat and combat styles to finish off the enemy. They can envenom their weapons to do more damage, and each has a ranged attack that they can use as well. All three get dual wield or left axe. All three are limited to leather armors.
Please note that climbing and disguise are not yet implemented.
Critical Strikes
Thief special attacks are learned by specializing in a thief-only skill called "Critical Strikes". Specializing in this skill will teach the player special combat styles, the most basic of which is Backstab. Critical Strike styles are all dependent on the player being hidden when they first initiate them; or are based on styles that require the player to be hidden. So to use a critical strike at all, the player must first be hidden.
Critical Strike Styles
The number is the amount of specialization you have to have in Critical Strikes to learn the style.
1 Backstab - Medium Fatigue cost, use from behind enemy, medium bonus damage, medium bonus to hit, medium penalty to defense, use while hidden
4 Eviscerate - Medium fatigue cost, use after backstab, high bonus damage, causes short duration attack speed reduction, small bonus to hit, small penalty to defense
6 Kidney Rupture - High fatigue cost, use after Eviscerate, Medium bonus damage, Causes short duration bleed, small bonus to hit, medium penalty to defense
8 Pincer - Medium fatigue cost, Use from beside enemy, medium bonus damage, high bonus to hit, high penalty to defense
10 Backstab II - High fatigue cost, use from behind enemy, medium bonus damage, high bonus to hit, medium penalty to defense, use while hidden
12 Hamstring - Low fatigue cost, use after evading enemy, medium bonus damage, causes medium duration bleed, medium bonus to hit, medium bonus to defense
15 Thigh Cut - Medium fatigue cost, use after Backstab II, Medium bonus damage medium bonus to hit, small penalty to defense
18 Garrote - High fatigue cost, use any time, medium bonus damage, causes medium duration movement reduction, medium bonus to hit, medium penalty to defense
21 Perforate Artery - Medium fatigue cost, use from in front of enemy, medium bonus damage, causes long duration bleed, high bonus to hit, medium penalty to defense, use
while hidden
25 Achilles Heel - Medium fatigue cost, use after Garotte, Medium bonus damage, causes long duration attack speed reduction, medium bonus to hit
29 Leaper - Low fatigue cost, use after parrying enemy, medium bonus damage, long duration bleed, high bonus to hit, small bonus to defense
Ranged Attacks
All three thieves get basic ranged attacks to supplement their Critical Strikes and other combat styles. The Infiltrator can use crossbows, the Shadowblade can use throwing knives, and the Nightshade learns level-based direct damage spells.
Poisons
All thieves learn the Envenom skill at level 5. This allows them to apply poisons to their weapons before going into battle. Poison vendors have been set up around the world -- use them. They sell poisons that have different effects on your enemy -- some debuff, some apply a damage over time, etc. It is expected that a thief will always attack with an envenomed weapon, so make sure you stock up on poison before you head out hunting.
Please note that poisons are level-based, so you will not be able to apply some poisons until you put more spec points into Envenom. You will be able to gauge the relative power of a poison by its name in the store list. Please note that low-level weapons will not be able to be envenomed by high-level poisons. You must use a level-appropriate poison on your weapon.
Please note that only your melee weapons can be poisoned.
Distractions
In order to be able to hide better, thieves learn how to use "Distractions". They learn this ability by training in the Stealth specialization. You can greatly increase your hiding chances if you approach a monster from behind - and distractions give you the opportunity to do this. To distract a monster, first hide by using your stealth skill. Move towards the monster. Target an area where you want the monster to turn by using the "target area" function (F5 by default). Then click on the distract icon. If successful, the monster will turn and face that area. Please note that the monster has a chance of turning around and immediately attacking you if you fail the distract roll. The higher you specialization in Stealth, the better your distracting will be. Please note that you won't get Distraction until you have about five spec points in Stealth.
Combat Strategy
The soloing thief should first poison his weapon, then go into stealth mode. Using distract as needed, he should sneak behind his target, then execute backstab, and the styles that chain off of backstab. Afterwards he can use a mix of regular tactics and dual wield combat styles as needed until the monster is dead.
September18 3:00 PM Beta Guild Goodness, More Members
Well, there's been support from all over the place helping us form in-game...
The three beta-testing members of the Mystical Order of the Dark Forest are going to help...
Padraig, Arric, and Lazara, who aren't in the guild but are in beta, would like to join and get experience with the guild system...
And finally, we have a seventh beta-testing member: Florken.
September 17 4:30 PM Assistance From Without, Jarroth A Blademaster
Arric, a bard tester, has offered to help us form the guild. We now have the requisite eight people...and so must schedule a time to all meet up at the guild registrar and form. Go to the message board and post your ideal time...
As the heading should make obvious, Jarroth has decided to be a Blademaster.
September 17 2:45 PM New Beta Member!
Brent (not sure which of his in-game names to list him as) has joined us. He is a beta tester, bringing our total playing member base up to 6 again. Shalinor of the Mystical Order of the Dark Forest has also agreed to join us in-game, at least temporarily, so we just need one more...
September 16 6:50 PM Guild Not Forming In-Game?, New Member, Members Leaving, A Caution
The guild may or may not be able to form in-game. If we are, it will be as a temporary merged guild of The Emerald Circle and the Mystical Order of the Dark Forest. We have 5 beta-testing members, and they have 3.
Gwydion has left the guild to play in Albion. Dragoro has left due to a disagreement between him and some other members on some real life issues (that never should have been brought up) and their behavior in the chat. More info can be provided, if anyone really wants to know, though I think it's something that we should leave behind us.
Please, people, if you have some radical and/or controversial real life views, leave them there. Don't bring it to the game, to the guild, to meetings, or to message boards. Especially now, after the events of the past week.
September 14 8:30 PM New Member, Guild Forming In-Game
Wesleyan, a beta testing Eldritch, has joined us.
We now have nearly enough members to form the guild in-game. I hope that either today or tomorrow we'll be formed, and be able to test the guild system first-hand.
September 14 3:15 PM Another Member, More Class Changes
Jarroth has joined us.
Quar has changed his class to a Champion, and Manowarr is now a Warden.
September 13 6:00 PM More Scouts, More Members, Class Change
Oakley is now a Scout. Melody and Keira are both Scouts as well. Note that neither are a Stalker class; it's not necessary for the position, though it's a plus.
Theoden and Teladar have now joined us. If I counted correctly, we now have 71 members.
I have decided to be a Hero again (was my original plan, before I switched to Warden). The support role just isn't for me.
September 13 3:00 PM Class Change, New Members
Manowarr has changed class from Eldritch to Ranger.
September 12 5:00 PM More Members, Mesmerea Decided
September 10 6:45 PM More Members, Members Page Redesigned
The members page has been redesigned, so that members are in columns rather than rows. Special positions are bolded and in italics. Hopefully this will make it easier to see who has a special position, as well as how many of each type of player we have (we currently don't have many Guardians). Thanks go to Audriana for the idea and the layout.
September 10 12:05 PM New Member
Perendriel has joined us, bringing our member total up to 63.
September 10 9:47 AM 2nd Lurer, Surprise Surprise
Tiram asked to be a Lurer...and so he is.
I'm sure no one will be shocked that we have more members today. Fatebender (The Splendid!) and Oakley have joined us.
September 9 11:24 PM Emblems
I've updated the picture of the possible guild emblems to include new ones that I have found in the Camelot folder on my computer...I don't know that these are all in-game as of yet, but I believe they are.
September 9 6:30 PM Yet More...
Yeah, you guessed it; more people have joined the guild. Everyone welcome Rivera and Laleb Blackforest. We now have 60 members (if I counted right).
September 9 11:15 AM The Song, Cover Art, More Screenshots, Elric the Warden, New Member
Tsianina sent in a story, called "The Song", as her application for the Storyteller position. Because others have shown interest in this position, and several members have storywriting talent, there will be a contest on the message board - the prize being the position of Storyteller. To enter the contest: write a story (dealing with Hibernia in some way, obviously), which should be role-play oriented (might want to visit the Roleplaying board on ofCamelot for inspiration), and post that story on the message board under the topic "Storyteller".
I've decided to show everyone the picture testers see when we are loading the game (and one that is being used in some advertisements for the game). With no further ado, here it is (somewhat shrunken):
Notice that, while Albion and Midgard are represented by Human Male Warriors, Hibernia is represented by a scantily clad female elf mage. Deja vu, anyone? Also note the red dragon emblem on the Paladin's shield. Don't hope for one of those; emblems will be black only.
Elric has decided that he will be a Firbolg Warden.
And of course, we have a new member (what would a daily news update be without another member?) - Gwydion.
September 9 12:45 AM Position Switchin', Class Change, New Members
Iago and Nos have switched positions. Nos is now Voyager, and Iago a Scout.
Tyrias has decided to be a Druid, as he foresees a need for healers.
September 7 2:20 PM Sad Goodbyes, New Positions, New Members
Tyrpan and Sithron have left us :(. Good luck to both of you, and it was nice having you as members...
A lot of Special Position applications and requests have come in. Nos wants to be a scout, Toros would like to be "puller", Tyrias wants to be photographer, and Tsianina wondered if we have an alliance liason. We already had a Scout and Photographer, however, and we didn't have a position for pulling or representing us to alliances; so obviously some changes had to be made...
The "old" Scout position is now Voyager - someone who goes out, explores new lands, makes maps, etc.
The new Scout position can be held by up to one out of every eight people, and is basically someone who scouts ahead on raids and hunts. Also does the things the Voyager does, though to a lesser degree.
The Lurer position is the person in charge of - surprise - pulling. There can be one for every 8 members.
And the Liason is in charge of alliances after they are established. They check out alliance members' web sites, message boards, etc. for any news we might need to know, and let them know about cooperative events we will be sponsoring.
Tyrias has replaced Zolares as the Photographer; Zolares should already have enough to do with his leadership positions...those with other responsibilities will be passed up for a special position if someone else wants it.
Iago is the Voyager, Nos is a Scout, Toros is the Lurer, and Tsianina is the Liason.
Because of the interest in special positions, I've changed my standpoint on them. Originally they were meant to be status symbols within the guild, that you are the best at your chosen field. Now I've decided that they will be simply an identifier of what you are good at and like to do - you don't necessarily have to be the best to get them. Any special position that can fill a role in the guild will be considered.
Though we have lost some of our older members, new ones continue to join. Itelar, Empire, Tyrias, and Mike have joined us.
September 4 7:00 PM Battlemaster, Director
Audriana brought to my attention the fact that we didn't have a special position in charge of raids. Now we do: the Battlemaster. The description: In charge of coordinating raids on enemy realms; including both planning and execution. Has leadership of any raid they may organize, with orders being outranked only by the Guildmasters'.
Audriana has also been promoted to Director; congratulations!
September 4 5:35 PM Four New Members, Our Scout
Garan, Xal, Iago, and Tiram have all joined us. Welcome to our 50th, 51st, 52nd, and 53rd members, respectively.
Iago has applied for and received the special position of Scout.
September 4 4:30 PM Screenshots!
September 2 5:25 PM Class Change, Rand And Aran
Rand and Aran have joined The Emerald Circle, making a total of ....*drumroll*....49 members!
