In this drawing, Schiele's rejection of Art Nouveau is apparent. Though not
as expressive as later works,
the angularity of line
and use of non-representaional colour
in "Seated Female..." are signs of things to come.

Over the course of his life, Schiele did
upwards of 100 self-portraits. Not only
was he his cheapest model, but self-
portraiture was an experiment in body
language and revealing the psyche.
