CITY NEWS BUREAU OF CHICAGO
I worked for City News from mid-1994 until early 1998. CNB, unfortunately, is now part of Chicago history. But Paul Zimbrakos has reconstituted CNB as a subsidiary of the Chicago Tribune Company. Anyone wanting to get in touch with him can call the New City News Service at 312-222-5555.
Also, City Newsers now have a get-together the first Friday of every month beginning around 6 p.m. at the Billy Goat Tavern at Lower Michigan Avenue and Hubbard Street (in Chicago, of course).
Famous alums of City News include Kurt Vonnegut, cartoonist Herblock, artist Claes Oldenburg, Weekly Standard senior editor David Brooks, TV journalist Hal Bruno and many others.

Poetry
|
OK, so I don't have any up yet. But I do often attend a poetry reading at the Heartland Cafe, 7000 N. Glenwood Ave., in Chicago. It's held every Wednesday at 10 p.m., though you have to get there by 9:30 p.m. for signup. The reading is the continuation of the In One Ear poetry reading that used to be held at the dearly departed No Exit Cafe. (At right is the poet Homer)
