India is a land of striking; rather woeful contrasts. There are individuals who control and exploit the rich natural resources for their personal gains and greed; irrespective of its fallout to the society and country as a whole. On the one hand there are people who owns lot of affluence to show-off; on the other millions of toiling masses living below-standard lives; surviving on the mercy of nature. Quite a number of those are poorly nourished because they have not even access to two-square meals everyday; and worst who are destined to spend their nightswith empty stomach. People, especially womenfolk's travels many kilometers, bare foot,to fetch drinking water, which is not even properly fit for human consumption. On the other hand, there are families in mega cities and even small towns too who use mineral water for their household use and potable water through sprinkler to keep their fountains alive and meticulously manicured lawn lush-green. Ironically, India is plagued by all the ills which most of the developing countries face today. Since natural resources are criminally abused and people at responsible place have indifference, common men are hardly bothered; so one can visualize the picture country will present in the ensuing days! Uttar Pradesh has earned the credit of being the most populous province of the country. The rural poverty, coupled with lowest rate of literacy, awareness and lack of infrastructure is a shame on the civilization. The State and a strong will to work in unison with the ultimate goal of bettermentof humankind here-- to combat the scourge of deteriorating health, hunger, income generations for the masses;and towards the benefits of humankind. Still, all is not lost! There is a ray of hope, a silver lining-- in the people with dedication to serve the poor, the people of villages (where the 80 per cent of population lives) and a commitment to serve the humanity. Scientific, judicious and rational management of natural resources, imparting of education to the people at the younger stages, empowerment of women, use of appropriate and eco-friendly technology in our day-to-day life is urgently needed to arrest the damage of society and the country at large. BHARAT GRAM has prioritize the projects in the basic areas of health, hunger and humanity; just the way Rotary International works to improve health of the deprived residents, alleviate hunger and enhance human and social development as a means of advancing international understanding, goodwill and peace. Quality of life and sustainable society will be the buzzwords for Development in the area where Eco-village is proposed. The mother nature has bestowed us with so many gifts; but we are destroying these precious resources, knowingly or unknowingly, which needs to be taken care of urgently through such eco-village models. Here, it is that we, at PRATIDAN and BHARAT GRAM have tried to take the initiative. It is a humble beginning; though. It is hoped that it will make considerable dent in the sleepy helmet of deprived people; will usher them into a new world--the world of awareness, the world of enlightenment; and the world which will be an experience of fulfillment. It will be a sustainable society, based on the principle of ahimsa-- the non-violence! It also aims at creation of such a self-sustainable society which will check the migration of potential workforce to the towns and big cities--the jungle of concrete where living conditions are more deplorable and where contribution to the society is to the negative side. Moreover, the cities in India have a reputation of eco-unfriendly which hardly have regard to nature and eco-system. On the contrary, this will be a fully self-reliant Eco-village, a model of emulation for any micro or mega community and when operational, will be treated as model. The funding agencies will gradually withdraw from the scene with reins of the village in the able hands of self-help groups of BHARAT GRAM. Such models just do not exists in India; where these are needed most. Do you feel inclined to know more? If so.. ...Please
