Omecihuatl and Ometecuhtli are really male and female aspects of the same god. The two aspects were called the Two Lord. The Two Lord is the supreme deity, above all others. He had no real role in the lives of the Aztecs, because he is too large and supreme. However, he does hold a drop of water in his hands with a tiny green speck, the Earth.

According to legend, the Two Lord gave birth to a stone knife and threw it to Earth, causing 1600 heroes to rise up. The heroes decided that they needed servants, and with Xolotl's help, they created the first man and woman in order to populate the Earth with workers.
