This page is being established to promote the work of little known New Zealand writers. There is a wealth of talent amongst many New Zealanders who are not acclaimed. Such writers and people of many other talents have prodigious output of work which is every bit as good as the work that is recognised in other countries.
My publishing bid is called RiverJourney Publishing. It is promoting three works of scholarly non fiction about a gravely misunderstood minority in many countries, psychiatric survivors. The literature being promoted highlights the melting pot 'reforms' of the past fifteen years, especially the health reforms in New Zealand. During this time survivors have struggled to shrug off the ideas that have kept them ill with poor prognoses and absence of what fills the life that most people take for granted. Deinstitutionalisation appears to have worked here better than it did in other countries, but the casualties of social and family dysunction and system casualties are most significant. Health and healthy outcomes do not go hand in hand here in New Zealand and survivors are gravely misunderstood. They are also often very clever, very talented, and deeply spiritual people. I see my non fiction as an awareness raising exercise that could save lives. I see the awareness generated by RiverJourney Publishing as putting survivors into healthy outcomes. 3% of New Zealanders are psychiatric survivors, 50% of survivors have been sexually abused, a small minority of this 3% pose threats to others while the lives of victims, scapegoats and misunderstood people remain casualties of politics, society, and harsh economics.
