The Doberman Pinscher is a loyal, loving, gentle animal when properly bred and raised...and adored! The breed is not for everyone; dobermans aren't called Velcro Dogs for nothing--they need to be with, to be close to, their human companions. Dobermans require a great deal of time, attention, and love, and their human companions must be intelligent and observant enough to be able to communicate with (and keep up with, much less ahead of!) these highly intelligent dogs. In order to exercise their energy and intelligence and in order to make them better companions, Doberman Pinschers, like all dogs, should have obedience training. And in order to make THEM better companions, humans should make an effort to learn about and understand canine health and behavior and should be able and willing to be responsible for their dogs' health, safety, and happiness as well as for how their dogs interact with people (especially children). And above all, humans must be as alert, observant, and sensitive as their dogs...and must have and use simple common sense. Do you have what it takes to be a dobercompanion?
