Making Real Audio Files

To make a file suitable to be played on the Real Audio player has advantages and disadvantages over other file types.
Advantages; Small file size.
Fast Loading over the web.
Capable of being streamed. (Listen as it is being downloading.)

Disadvantages; Quality reduced at lower compression rates.
Slow loading of the Real Audio player.

The software that is required to make a Real Audio file you probably have. If not , it is available for download "free of charge".
So lets get started.
WHAT YOU NEED

Of course you need the song. Either on a CD or in MP3 format.
Secondly you will need a program to convert the format into a .wav file. Many programs can do this. We use GOLDWAVE. Many CD writing software programs can also convert to .wav. I won't get into the details of this conversion because of the many different programs out there, but if you are using GOLDWAVE, e-mail us for any help.
If converting an mp3 , then we suggest using WINAMP.
And thirdly, you will need Real Audio's encoder program. The current one is REALSYSTEM PRODUCER BASIC.It's the free one. We are still using an older version called Real Audio Encoder version 3.1.0.. You can get that one from us right here. It is zipped.

NOW WE ARE READY

If you have followed us so far, you will have on your hard drive somewhere a very large .wav file of the song you want to convert to a Real Audio song. If you don't, back up a step and re-read the above paragraph. If you have that all figured out and do have the .wav file saved to your hard drive, we can continue. Run your Real Audio encoder program. I will assume you have downloaded the older version from us as stated above. I find this program less intrusive on your system than the newer versions. Click the browse buttom, upper left of the screen and find the .wav file you are converting. Add the song title, Artist info, and any other info in the copyright window. Your file will be saved as a .ra file according to the file name in the destination window in the right hand window of the screen. You can change this as need be. Then click the START ENCODING button and away it goes. It will not take too long. Presto Magic, you now have a file with a .ra extension that will bring up the Real Audio player when double clicked.
