Inner rings: 4-4-4-4
Small outer rings: 4-4
Large outer rings: 4-3-2-2-2-3-4

You will need a copy of the picture to work this pattern. Use the counts given above and the special instructions below.

Inside corners that form the center: After forming the last inner ring of a leg, repeat the inner ring without a space joining to the last inner ring with the first picot. Follow with a small outer ring joined to the same picot as the last small outer ring. Make the next inner ring. Make a large outer ring which will join to the same picot as the last small outer ring. (You now have 4 rings sharing a picot.)

End of each leg: Make a small outer ring that does not attach to anything. (This ring cam be made with or without a picot.) The inner ring that follows will be 4-4+(to last picot of last inner ring)4-4. Make a large outer ring of 4-3-2-2-2-3-4 with all picots free. Make an inner ring of 4+(to last picot of last inner ring)4-4-4. Make a small outer ring (with or without picot). Make an inner ring of 4+(to center picot of last inner ring)4+(join to center picot of inner ring opposite)4-4.

A size 70 thread will produce a cross that is approximately 5 3/4 inches by 4 1/2 inches.
