David Dillon and "Party's"
Web Site
The Life
and Times
of a Gay Playwright
& Theatrical Director
Welcome!
Updated
1/99, 4/99 and 9/99
I am constantly working on some areas of my Home Page, but
there are several sections that are up and finished, some that
are partially done and some I have recently updated. For the
record, I am a 42 year old (single) gay playwright and theatrical
director born in Chicago where I lived most of my life and now
living in Los Angeles. I am the author of the play "Party",
a very successful off-Broadway gay comedy which has been playing
all over the country as well as internationally for the past six
years, and its sequels "Girl Party" and "Third
Party".
As you'll
see below, this site will consist of a lot of different things. I
consider it a place to tell pieces of my story, introduce my work
to people who do not know it, and entertain and enlighten a bit.
I am currently working on a number of new projects and will talk
about them here as they take place. I am also writing a book - an
autobiographical chronicle of things I've seen and done and
experienced. Some of what you read about here will be covered in
greater depth in the book (and I intend to name names!).
Below you'll
find the section headings for the various areas of my Home Page.
Some are already active. As I complete each one, I'll upload it
until I'm complete. So, please check back and see what's up. I
think you'll find something of interest in the finished product.
At least I hope so. See you again!
UPDATED 9/99
- The "Party" Pages - Info, background and history on
the "Party" plays. "Party" began in Chicago
where it opened in November of 1992 for a six-week run and ended
up running for over two years becoming the longest-running gay-themed
play in Chicago theatre history. It opened off-Broadway at the
Douglas Fairbanks Theatre on 42nd Street in New York in 1995 and
has since played all over the country, in Canada and in Mexico (in
Spanish where it is called "Fiesta!"). This past
September, it opened in London's West End, where it was very
successful. "Girl Party" is a lesbian version of the
show which I co-authored with Chicago playwright Virginia Smiley,
and "Third Party" combines the male and female
characters from the two earlier plays. Photos from various
productions, behind-the-scenes stories ("be careful what you
wish for"), production information as well as contact
information for anyone interested in producing the plays.

surfaced after my father's suicide when I was 13 and the inter-relation
of how my sickness affected my career and how achieving my wish
of having my play be a success in New York in what was not at all
a pleasant experience, combined with these illnesses and an out-of-control
drug problem almost killed me.
