(27 Dec. 1998) The regular season has ended and the Denver Broncos made
this a very exciting season indeed! Closing out the season with a 28-21 win over the Seattle Seahawks and setting a good number of
records on the way. They closed out the season with a franchise best 14-2 record, Terrell Davis (#30) won the NFL rushing record AND
joined the very exclusive 2,000 yards in a season club. He ran for a total of 2,008 yards becoming the 3rd highest ground gainer in
NFL history! Way to go Terrell!! John Elway (#7) also reached a major milestone by throwing his 300th touchdown pass, becoming only
the 3rd quarterback in NFL history to do so. Our two wide recievers, Rod Smith (#80) and Ed McCaffrey (#87) both had over 1,000 yards
receiving. Shannon Sharpe (#84) became the 3rd all-time receiving Tight End and the Broncos became the 6th highest scoring team in
NFL history with a total of 501 points on the season! They now have a BYE week as the Wildcards teams battle for a chance. The Broncos
next game is on January 9th against (TBD). Congrats to the Denver Broncos on a great run at history and a great season. Now they just
need to do it in the Post Season like they did last year. I know they can REPEAT THE FEAT!! Click on the Bronco LOGO to view some pictures.
(3 January 1999) Well the Wildcard weekend is over and it looks like the Broncos will be hosting the Dolphins on the 9th of January at Mile High. After the Dolphins pulled one out over the Bills 24-17 (with a LOT of help from the Refs) and the Jaguars beat out the Patriots 25-10, the final four AFC teams are Denver, New York, Jacksonville and Miami. In the NFC it was the Cardinals all over the Cowboys 20-7 and the 49ers beat the Packers 30-27 to advance to the playoff round next week. The Broncos have been working hard in getting all of those nagging injuries healed and now they can start to work on a game-plan against the Dolphins. Here's to the BRONCOS and another run at the Superbowl!! Go BRONCOS!! Let's REPEAT the FEAT!! (9 January 1999) Can you say Ass Whoopin! That is exactly what the Broncos gave the Dolphins on this beautiful Saturday afternoon in Mile High stadium! They came out looking for revenge from the regular season loss and they got it. Terrell Davis, named earlier as the NFLs 1998 MVP, ran like there was no tomorrow and racked up a Post-Season record 199 yards on just 21 carries for two TOUCHDOWNS! Congrats Terrell we love ya man! Even Derek Loville (looking like a Davis in the making) scampered in from 11 yards out for a TOUCHDOWN, excellent job Derek! John Elway looked much sharper in this game (14 of 23 for 182 yards) than the last game against Miami and tossed his 301st career TD on a great play by Rod Smith in the endzone. Shannon Sharpe, Ed McCaffrey and even Howard Griffith were pulling-in everything that came their way. So did Bill Romanowski and Darrius Johnson as they both picked one off from Marino (who didn't even come out on the field for the last set of downs). The Defense applied pressure on Marino and company all game long and that combined with our superb running game was all it took to send the Dolphins packing for the long trip home. The most surprising play to me was watching Neil Smith pick up a fumbled pass and rumble (not run) for 79 yards and a TOUCHDOWN! He must have had his Chunky soup! Now it's time to prepare for the AFC Championship game on the 17th against the New York Jets (defeated Jacksonville 34-24). GO BRONCOS! REPEAT the FEAT!! The Broncos have done it again and are headed back to the Superbowl to defend their title! On a very windy day in Mile High stadium they came out looking rather flat and really could not generate much offense, thankfully neither could the Jets! Both teams struggled with any kind of a scoring attack until the closing seconds of the 1st half. The Broncos stalled early on a 55-yard drive to the 1 yard line after a Tyrone Braxton fumble recovery. The Jets then sacked Tom Rouen on a dropped snap but again coughed-it-up with John Mobley recovering the ball. The Broncos stalled again and had to turn it over to the Jets, who finally converted it into a Field Goal as the 1st half ended, leading 3-0. The 2nd half didn't start out very well either as the Broncos took the opening kickoff and went nowhere. Then, punting from their own endzone, it's blocked and the Jets take over at the 1 yard line. One play later it's 10-0 and things were not looking good........ but wait, we have the legend, Johnny Legend on the field. He finds Ed McMaffrey wide open on a 47-yard bomb, Terrell Davis pounds the ball down to the 11 yard line and then Elway hits Howard Griffith for an 11-yard TOUCHDOWN pass! Finally they're on the scoreboard and the SPARK has been lit! It was all Broncos from that point on as the Jets turned it over again and again. Later in the 3rd quarter Jason Elam hit field goals of 44 and 48 yards to tie the game and then to put the Broncos on top 13-10. Then the MVP of the NFL did his magic once again with a 31-yard TOUCHDOWN run to close out the 3rd quarter and wrap up a 20 (unanswered) point scoring spree. The 4th quarter was all Defense as they pressured Testaverde constantly, forcing him to throw two INTs, both of which were picked-off by Darrien Gordon. The 1st pick led to another Jason Elam field goal of 35 yards, putting the Broncos up 23-10 and the last one sealed the fate of the Jets coming at the 2:47 mark of the 4th quarter. Elway didn't have a great day, going 13 of 34 for 177 yards, but he made it work when they needed it most! Davis had another outstanding game with 167 yards and one TD. The Defense allowed only 14 yards rushing and bent but did not break on the passing game. The Broncos will now spend the next week getting the game plan installed for the matchup against the Atlanta Falcons (defeated the Vikings in overtime 30-27) in Superbowl XXXIII in Miami. GOOD LUCK BRONCOS! We know you can REPEAT the FEAT!! Click on the Bronco LOGO to view some pictures. Your final score: DENVER 23 - NEW YORK 10 (31 January 1999) 1998 NFL Champions! Yes Bronco fans, they did it! They Repeated the Feat and have gone Back2Back as the Superbowl Champions! Your Denver Broncos are still the reigning SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS! They did it in superb style as they took those Dirty Birds from Atlanta and showed them how to really play football in the NFL. The whole game plan was superb and executed perfectly, control the Falcons running game (Jamal Anderson) and let them get the short passes but nothing long. Well played by all! The offense did it's part as John Elway (Superbowl MVP) threw 18 of 29 for 336 yards, the third highest in Superbowl history, and a TOUCHDOWN. He also dove in from the 3-yard line for a second TOUCHDOWN. Terrell Davis pounded out 102 yards on 25 carries to keep the Falcon defense honest and added another 50+ yards receiving. The first half was all Rod Smith with 5 catches for 152 yards (the longest being an 80-yarder for a TOUCHDOWN to put away the Falcons and the game) and the second half was all Ed McCaffery with 5 catches for 72 yards. Although Davis didn't score any TDs, his favorite fullback (should be in the Pro Bowl) Howard Griffith pounded it in twice from the 1 yard line for two TOUCHDOWNS! Davis said he was glad to let Howard get the touchdowns as a present for being his #1 blocker all season. Jason Elam had an on then off day, hitting 2 of 4 Field Goal attempts, one from 26 yards and another one from 37 yards. The Defense did it's thing to perfection as they held Jamal Anderson to only 98 yards and pressured Chris Chandler all game long, sacking him twice and picking him off three times, two of them were by Darrien Gordon who return them for a total of 108 yards and setup two of the Broncos touchdowns. This was truley no match for the Broncos as they totally dominated the game from the start. Right up until the 11:20 mark of the fourth quarter the score was 31-6. Only a Kickoff returned for a touchdown by the Falcons and a final touchdown at the 2:04 mark made the final score even look close. My hats off to the Broncos and CONGRATS on another SUPER season! GO BRONCOS!! Your final score: DENVER 34 - ATLANTA 19
