Bribery?

PRESS RELEASE:

The Canby Cougars have announced that they will be sending the High Plains Drifters a bonus check of $100,000 in appreciation of the Drifters' defeat of the Texas Mustangs. The Mustangs loss leaves the Cougars in sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division for the first time in nearly two years. I think. I don't actually have the records in front of me. But it does feel great to see the Mustangs stumble! :)

Take them horses out and shoot 'em!

Playoff Picture

It appeared two weeks ago that we probably should just hand the Kirk Cup to the Erkelenz Unicorns, but things have changed of late and a few teams are making their run.

Eastern Conference

In the Atlantic Division Erkelenz (8-3) had piled up an 8 game winning streak and there really didn't seem to be anyone to stop the San Francisco Treat, but it happened.  With two loses in the last two weeks, the door has been opened for the Virginia Beach Uprising (8-3) to move in and take possession of the division.  That should be decided this week as the 'Corns and Uprising match up.   Orange Park (6-5) is not to be counted out though.  They have put together a solid season thus far and are currently ranked third in overall points.  If one team should falter, look for the Raiders to move in to a possible wild card birth.  Camden (5-6) is not out of it, but with one more loss, they should probably put their efforts into a drafting strategy for next year.  Also of note, all four teams in this division are in the top 5 in scoring.  Be ready to play if you suit up against of these 4.

The Central Division has taken a beating this year.   No team has been able to put it all together and run away with this division and it is still wide open.  Ithaca (5-6)  and Carolina (5-6) are on top, but for how long.  The Tigers have put together a small 2 game win streak, but can they continue?   And the Tennessee Dead (4-7) have been dead in the last four weeks unable to grab a single win.  If they can get back on track, they could be moving into the playoffs as well.  In this division even Phoenix (3-7-1) still has a glimmer of hope to make the playoffs.  Tennessee and Ithaca go at it in Week 13, which could prove to be a very pivotal game.  Keep an eye on this division.

Western Conference

The Midwest Division has Minnesota (8-3) trying to run away with the lead.  They have posted 3 straight wins and have all but assured themselves a playoff spot, especially with one more win.  First they will have to get through second place Bakersfield (6-5) this week.  They match up in a must win situation for Bakersfield, since High Plains (5-5-1) and Boonville (5-6) are ready to sneak in and take their wild card bid.  This division could come down to the wire.

And last, but not least, is the Pacific Division.   Canby (8-3) has been graced by God this year and has been able to pull out some close wins.  Their team only averages 21 points a game, but they get just enough each week and have put together and impressive 5 game streak.  The only real competition in this division comes from Texas (7-4) who are breathing down the Cougars neck.  The lose this past week hurt a little, but Texas and Canby will go at it in Week 14, which could decide the divisional champ.  The next two weeks will set the tone for that game.  Beaverton (3-8) has not been able to get any consistency and have faltered of late.  Their chances have been shot along with the Pacific Marauders (1-10), who's nine game losing streak has sent them tumbling.  But Pacific does look good for the draft next year and should have the first pick all wrapped up.
