STANLEY, NEW MEXICO
STORM BREWING OVER STANLEY ..
I love this town. Well, OK, it isn't really a town, though it does have a post office. It probably has six or seven occupied buildings, depending upon where you draw the town limits. The buildings shown here, though, have not been used for years and years. At one time this was a bean farming town, but it was mostly abandoned. Today it is "no trespassing," of course, but when this photo was taken, I had spoken to the owner of the property and he allowed me to go into the area, inside the buildings, and take photos. A real ghost town.

The Stanley Store closed a few years ago, but until it did, it was one of the most exciting stores in New Mexico, jammed with antiques, and small farm tools. It was a rest stop for commuters headed to/from Los Alamos, 75 miles to the north. The owners retired, and the store, up for sale for a couple of years, finally was just closed and now belongs to the Indians.
