Zhuan-shi ( stone-carving ) is almost equally important to calligraphy and painting in traditional Chinese artworks. Stone-carved seal is a must in a complete artwork. It has two basic form, Yang-wen and Ying-wen. It is called Ying-wen when the strokes of Chinese characters are carved, and when the rest of area other than strokes of characters is carved, called Yang-wen.

Though a few Zhuan-Shi produced for conveying artist' personal interest, most of carved stone are for name seal.
