GPS is a constellation of 24 orbiting satellites employed for free-to-use ground and velocity positioning purposes in real-time. The satellites and responding control systems facilitate hand-held receivers in attaining highly accurate geographic co-ordinates from any location on Earth, 24 hours a day (Heywood et al, 2002).
GPS was originally designed to provide navigation for marine shipping and aircraft, yet experienced diverse growth areas in the 1990's (El-Rabbany, 2002). These growth areas have initiated multiple product ranges from low-cost navigational devices to expensive tracking equipment. This website provides related information surrounding the development and distribution of GPS datasets. GPS Latest Additions GPS
