Unisex Hairstyles (for men)
Since the 1970's there has been a steadily growing trend in the concept of unisex fashion. This has been evident in the design of clothes, the blurring of the differences between male and female hairstyles and also, a particularly good example, the enormous increase in the sale of male toiletries especially with the creation of unisex fragrances such as 'cK One' by Calvin Klein.
In the 1990's it has become increasingly apparent that many men are in favour of this more relaxed attitude. They want to look their best and many women want them to look their best too. However, attitudes change slowly and a significant fraction of the male population are concerned that by embracing these attitudes they can look vain, or even worse they can appear feminine.
As someone who works in the fashion industry I can see the strong desire of many men who want to see their fashion needs catered for, but are affraid of these concerns. This site is aimed at these men. However, I hope that any women visitors will enjoy the site as well, and in particular the hairstyles illustrated here can give inspiration to persons of either sex.
For the moment, at least, this site is aimed at the promotion of the concept of unisex hairstyles. However, most of the pictures that I have used here are of women. Why is this? Well, there are essentially two main reasons. Firstly because I feel that women have generally been more adventurous with their hairstyles; secondly, and this is a practical issue, because there are a lot more pictures of woman with different styles and different lengths that are available to put up on the site. However, something that I really want to stress is that the styles I have chosen here I really do think of as unisex styles. This means that they are not feminine hairstyles even though they might be modelled here by women. Rather I think that these styles could be worn equally well, or adapted slightly to suit people of either sex. The photos are here only for guidance and suggestion, I always recommend that you discuss what particular style might suit you with your hairstylist before taking the plunge.
I hope the site can be navigated without too much explanation. However, this is my first attempt at creating a web site and I have used the standard software provided here by FortuneCity, to whom I give my thanks for enabling newbies like me to create such pages and promote our ideas. Any comments about the site or the style suggestions can be sent to me at [email protected]
One final thing. A photo disclaimer. Most of the photos used here have either been trawled off the Internet in the past for my own personal use, or I have scanned in from magazine cuttings. It was not my intention originally to create this site and so I paid no attention to where I collected the images from. If anyone has a problem with the copyright of any of these photographs, if you want acknowledgement or want me to remove them, then please let me know by email and I will do as you wish as soon as possible (to help identification I have kept the original filenames for the photographs).

On the style pages below, you will find a facility to vote for the styles, indicating which you think are and are not suitable for men. Please add your vote if you have time - the feedback will be useful and can be used when considering future site updates. I have started to update the votes now. The vote is given as per cent in favor of the style for a man and in parenthesis the total votes submitted for that style is given. For example For: 60% (10) means that 6 out of 10 votes were in favour of a man wearing that style.
