bio - a short biography of a quilter sending a set of Y2K blocks.

centralized swap - an organized Y2K swap in which one person oversees 80 quilters each swapping 80 sets of Y2K squares simultaneously.

charm - a certain sized cut of fabric in a particular shape. Y2K charms always refer to squares, either 2.5" or 3" in size.

charm quilt - a quilt made up of charms of the same size with no two fabrics the same. Most Y2K quilts are not true charm quilts, since some fabric squares are duplicates.

fat quarter (a.k.a. FQ) - a quarter yard cut of fabric measuring 18" x 22". 1 FQ = 40-45 Y2K squares.

mini-swap - a set of Y2K blocks that is less than 25+1, usually 10+1 or 5+1.

set of squares (a.k.a. 25+1) - a set of Y2K blocks consisting of 25 squares of different fabrics plus 1 signature square.

signature square (a.k.a. sig, siggy, sig block) - a square of unbleached muslin of the same size as the charms you are swapping. On this square is written your name, city, state, and country.

squishie (a.k.a. squishy) - an envelope with a set of Y2K squares inside. The envelope is soft and "squishie" .

Y2K - computer slang for "Year 2000". Outside of the quilting world, Y2K (a.k.a. the Y2K Bug) used to refer to a computer glitch, which was expected to cause problems in computers and computer-run systems on January 1, 2000. This proved to be untrue.

Y2K Quilt (a.k.a. Millennium Quilt) - a charm quilt whose main design is based on 2000 pieces of fabric and which is made to celebrate the year 2000. Most are not true charm quilts, since they contain duplicate fabrics.
