"Bands of Friendship" (72" by 88") machine pieced machine quilted Quiltmaker: Donna Lawicki Madison Heights, MI Artist's Statement: "This quilt contains a total of 142 modified Friendship Star blocks, using exactly 2000 fabric charms including the siggies. The center 8 (edged with green piping) are International siggies." "Just prior to retirement in 1996, I discovered I had AMD (Macular Degeneration). Since then I have lost most of my central vision and use high power magnifiers and special equipment to do everything, especially with the computer and sewing machine. My sewing machine is rigged with so many lights and magnifiers that it looks like a rocket ready to launch, but I can still sew a pretty mean 1/4" seam....so "QUILTING", here I am for eternity!!"
