Hurricane music at Swampwater Down
|
The Swampwater Down Hurricane Party happened on October 2, 1999. Cobalt Blues played into the night. As the band says "if you ain't havin' fun its your own damn fault". Psych-A-Billy brought its own brand of bluegrass to the stage. Bluegrass with an attitude. Although Swampwater Down is probably classier than most of the joints they play in you should definitely check out both of these bands. Robert White provided the sound. The woods were Rockin' into the next town. you can also see Robert perform with The Mighty Parrot. Frank Zangari sat in on the keyboards adding his smooth touch, Henry, Barb and Gale got the jug band going, and Bobby Sweeney laid down his guitar chops. You really had to be there. There may be a recording of the days music soon. Keep in touch for more about that. Segue to the arts. Check out Wynton Marsalis' album "My Jelly Lord". His tribute to Jelly Roll Morton captures the full range of New Orleans life.

Swampwater Downs' Terry Gossin continues her efforts to improve arts education through her work with the Dept. of Education. Terry's recent presentation at the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts gave specific information to Art and Music educators on assessment as it relates to the Core Curriculum Content Standards for the Arts.
