If you are searching for any of the following topics:

Ancient Chinese custom still plays its part in modern China, although recent changes have had a good affect on the Chinese people and their family lifestyles. Predictions of the Chinese Almanac still have some influence, just as they did in the ancient Chinese culture. There is always a particularly lucky day to choose for getting married, opening a new business, making a special purchase or for some other event in their lives. This is more noticeable in the remoter country villages, yet to catch up with the modernisation and prosperity of the cities and coastal regions. Whatever their economic circumstances, their culture has inbred the concepts of generosity and hospitality towards their visitors, so you are assured of a warm welcome in this new Millennium. I have learned much during my travels in China during the past twelve years and value the friendship given to me by the people.

Much has changed since the subservient days of the Emperors and Mandarins. The Chinese people today are better educated and more knowledgeable than their ancestors, and are less likely to consider superstition and hearsay. The Chinese people have more contact with the "Outside World" through the increased numbers of visitors to their country, and for many of them, by their connection to the Internet. Much has changed since the Cultural Revolution, when making a profit, or being in possession of items of any value, was considered a serious crime. There are the big business transactions going on in the major cities, but even in the remoter regions the people trade with each other, hopefully at a profit, in an endeavour to improve their lives and to obtain the luxuries or even the basic necessities, which many of us take for granted. Perhaps in these remoter regions, the ancient culture and customs provide a haven of comfort, in their times of need.
